Spector NS Dimension

Also, I have no problem with a $2000 instrument from Korea. I do have a problem with a $2000 Spector not being fully carved.

I assume by this statement you mean the NS body curve? If so, the Dimension basses do indeed have this.

On another note, I’m intrigued by what this bass has to offer. I have a Korean made Spector NS-2A from the Kramer era and it slays. Build quality is top notch.

I will be tuning in to see what news comes of this bass as they proliferate among the masses.

Strandberg is selling $3k+ basses made in Indonesia, so I’m not sure the idea of a $2k Spector from Korea is much different. Dingwall has Chinese built instruments in a premium price range. I assume the issue some folks have is that the Korean built models for Spector have been their lowest priced basses. I would think/hope Spector has justifications for the price, but I couldn’t say if I’d be okay with the price tag without getting my hands on one.

No, not the curve. I'm talking about the body edges. This is more akin to the Legend series. The body is arched, and the sides are somewhat rounded but still have a fairly distinct edge. Some Spectors have a fully rounded body, so there are no distinct edges. IMO, it makes a much more attractive and comfortable bass.

I'm pretty sure their website used to refer to this as "fully carved." I see that now they have dropped this terminology (unless I imagined it), but they do refer to the Euros as "elegantly carved."

I have a set-neck Legend Custom that is partially carved. My NC4CRFM is fully carved. They are dramatically different.

I get what you are saying. This body is considerably less rounded off everwhere.

Same with the euros. People forget the classic spector basses were solid maple. The euros are great but the alder and top wood sandwich is really dark sounding no matter what pickups you use. Same with chambering the basses. Doesn't help.

The new chambered redwood USA Spectors do not hit the same way as the spectors made even 10 years ago.

Yep three of my USA NS4s are all Solid Curly Maple wings. I have another USA NS4 which is a Redwood Cap over Black Walnut (they are each about the same thickness at about 1/2 of the body width). There is a difference in their sound. The Redwood is a little darker. But it also has a Wenge 3pc neck with a Wenge Fretboard.

I thought the same thing. Both horns have been reshaped somewhat. To be fair, this shape varies a little between USA, Euro, etc.

I have USAs, Euro, and a Korean NS2a. The horns are very similar on each. But the Euro and the Korean are older instruments.

But sure looks like these new Koreans have much less shaping on the horns.

I just meant that I think they look different in subtle ways. On some, the upper horn is more bulbous. On others, it is more slender. I have seen some USA models where the angles on the upper horn seem more deliberate as opposed to flowing. Sometimes, the upper horn seems to point in exactly the same direction as the neck; on others it points away slightly. I've seen a few where the lower horn is fairly slender. All these differences are minor.

I would bet you have way more experience with Spectors than I do, so I'd encourage others to trust your opinions more than mine.

Sorry for the derail. Overall the Dimensions look very interesting, and I much prefer the gloss finish to the matte.

They look cool, and Spector is a great company but I’m not digging the Fishman pups.

The big surprise for me in this video is that Jay Lock is back in town. He's not really a bass player but is a really kick @ss tasteful guitarist with a Berklee education. I've played on and off with him for years and he's always a pleasure to be with on and off stage.
