Ill have to look in to it. Being out of business I for some reason over looked them. I love the tone of Leland Sklar in all his YouTube vids and he uses his iAmp. But Im sure he would sound great put through anything.

WHAT I NEED

LOUD. Im not sure yet if age has soften him but he was a loud drummer. I mean Loud. So I need something that cant really pump. I was using a SWR workingman 4004 when jamming with him prior but I was maxed out.

Smallish - I only have a tiny car now and my doors dont open very wide. I was a shop manager for a production company and had many people arrive at my shop to pick up a bunch of @*(^ with only a Mini Cooper and it was my job to make it happen so Im have plenty of experience in the limits of what is possible / reality when loading equipment. Im also getting older and dont really feel like wrestling a puzzle piece in even if it is possible if turned a certain way blah blah blah. Im burned out on that.

Lightweightish - Im aware great deals can be had on some 8x10s and lead sleds. My last cab was a SWR 8x10 I got for a steal for the reason that a lot of them go for that low, they are pain to haul and you need a bigger vehicle which I dont have. Also as I said Im getting older and over that.

Style / Genre - Dont know.

The kicker - Price Limit - AIMING for 800ish. I can go a bit more as I know shipping has gone up as well but I live in a area were any shop is 2 to 3 hours away and they dont have @*(^ especially used and the criagslist in my area has nothing as well. So shipping stuff to me is most likely what Ill have to go with.

So is there anything head cab / combo I might be over looking?

It's a known adage around here. You can pick any TWO of these three....light, loud, and cheap. That's all he was saying.

If it's light and loud, it won't be cheap.

If it's cheap and loud, it won't be light.

If it's light and cheap, it won't be loud.

It's a good rule of thumb when shopping.

Also, times have changed a little since you last shopped for bass gear. $800 for light and loud isn't incredibly cheap....but it isn't very expensive either.

Class D heads are the way to go. There's a number of good ones around the $799 price including the DNA-800 That I have. It's 800-watts rms into 4Ω or 2Ω, and delivers 400-watts to 8Ω. It has a really nice built-in compressor with adjustable threshold and ratio controls. You can add a little sustain with it while keeping good dynamics, or you can squash it flat if you like so as long as you have a finger on the note it keeps playing (with no attack or dynamics), and of course everywhere in between those two extremes. It weighs all of 4.8-lbs, so it's super easy to move. Street price new is $799.

I'd also recommend that you get a DNS-210 by DNA. I have both a DNS410 that I bought in 2015, and their DNS-210 that I bought when I was accepted into their endorsing artist program. I bought it figuring I would use it for small and medium-sized venues. I'd had small venues refuse to let me use my DNS-410, but nobody looks sideways at a bassist bringing in a 210 cab. But this is an ungodly loud cabinet (handles 700-watts rms with a max SPL of 134db), and I now use it for all my indoor venues small through large. At 51-lbs, it's not the lightest 210 out there, but it can be used for a lot of places where I used to use my 410 and 51-lbs. is a lot lighter than just about any 410. Street price (new) runs from $849 to $969. I believe the $969 has the NEO speakers.

I reserve my DNS-410 now for outdoor venues and Music Festivals. And with my DNS-410 at music festivals I get told to turn down when using my 800-watt Eden amp if I run the master up to 10:30. So I don't have to worry about lugging around an 810 cab.

I went right for the DNS-410 back in 2015 because I didn't anticipate having a small venue like the brew pub (we hosted open mic night for them over 40 Friday's a year) say, "you can't use that here. It's too big." I think the DNS-210 is the better way to go because it will handle all your indoor venues and then add a second one down the road as needed for outdoor venues and music festivals.

Odds are that's going to be a bit over your $800 budget but they are available on the used market and you might be able to put them together close to that.

Here's a shot of everything together although I only had the DNS-210 plugged into the amp here. Was my first gig with it in 2019 and I'm running it with my Eden amp bridged at 800-watts into it. This venue was an "almost large" venue and I brought my 410 cab with me just in case the 210 wasn't enough. I could unplug the 210 and plug the 410 in within seconds. The DNS-210 was more than enough.

I responded to this already and clarified and revised. Heres the post. Ultimately it has to fit in the one of the openings in my small car.

Well Ive read this over and over again and I get that a small light weight will eat most of the budget but I dont need crazy light weight, it would be nice but I really need it to fit in a door to get into the car. And Im not against a lead sled either Im just looking for the tightest package I could get which MB500 212 meets and comes within my budget. Im sure that would do fine a even a Rocket bass I dont need crazy pro level gear again to play every other month just seeing if there's other options that I might have missed and Im not really looking for cheap. I have a budget but can spend a bit more and Im a pretty good negotiator and wont be paying asking. I figure I could get used gear being listed totaling $1200 or a bit more used for what I looking to spend which opens the range a bit more. Cheap seems like it would be a new Fender Rumble .

Fender Rumble 500.....BUT..... Start your EQ at: 10,2,2,10 (in O'clock), as that is actually FLAT for a Rumble. Make sure all the other EQ (bright, etc) are off and see if you like it.

People have said they like MY Rumble more than the one at the store. It's the same, I just start it flat.

Im aware how to flatten a Fender and tried a bunch of settings at the store just didnt do it for me.

I have two D series 210 Eden cabs, which dB wise would fit the bill, used it would fit your budget better than inside your car, and they aren’t the lightest cabs out there.

You could do a couple 112’s but when you get over 80% of it’s wattage rating the sound can get harsh.

or, sell the Cooper and buy a (sigh) Prius… LOL. Best wishes!
