Double Bass SPIROCORES ARE SO MUCH FUN!!!!!!!

The S42 Mittels have been on my bass for a little over a week now and have lost most of that "new string" sound.

I'm liking the fact I can keep them relatively low but still get plenty of acoustic volume. My bass also seems to like them. I can feel the instrument resonate and respond when I play.

So far I'm not hearing any significant improvement over the Helicore's as far as tone but they probably need some more time to settle in. I'm usually very adamant about wiping down my strings after playing but I think I'll let these build up some patina.

Does anyone else find the A string harder to bow than the E.D and G on S42 weichs?

I really like bowing Spirocore Weichs...also except for the A string.

The A sounds kind of muted and is hard to start compared to the other strings, and the sound annoys me whenever I played that string. This has been an issue with other A strings on my 110cm scale bass, even a wound gut A. I used gut strings for a long time, and the plain Gamut gut A string worked really well surprisingly, so I figured my bass prefers low tension A strings.

I now use a downtuned Spirocore Solo A, with an otherwise normal Spirocore Weich set, and I'm really happy with it, the sound blends better with the other strings, and is fine to bow, and it backs the theory that low tension A strings are better on my bass.

It's the dreaded A wolf. Tight strings make it worse on my bass too.
Intriguing. Goes to show every bass is different as both the Spiro Weich and Mittel A string are super clear and responsive on my bass.

I’m on one year with Spiro Mittels and am finally able to moderately play outdoors and socially distant. These will forever be my go to string from now on. My bass sounds so wonderful. Clear, responsive, and as loud as can be. I’m considering trying an Oliv G full time in the foreseeable future and maybe Tempera, but Spiros are it for me.

After a brief (and expensive!) flirtation with Gensslers on my travel bass, I'm back on spiro mittels and more convinced than ever that they're the strings for me. I don't think any other string lets the player have the same level of control over articulation, volume, projection - they'll do whatever you have the imagination and technique to ask of them, rather than imposing their own personality and limitations

String lengths on my basses are 42-1/8" and 42-3/8", so most strings are a bit tight or to thin. S42 mitts and weichs fit that description respectively.

So I've been experimenting with perpetuals on both of my basses since March, and it has been a positive experience so far. Especially Arco has been unexpected surprise--very responsive and "reliable". The perpetuals seem to be perfect tension and thickness. An added bonus is that they are loud and have lots of dynamic range and character across the frequency spectrum on my bass.

just put some OLD mittels on my Upton ... (thanks @nickmo007)

this is definitely the most POWER i've ever had on this bass ... i still wanna work em in, my Upton might need some time to adjust to the POWAAA (ahnold voice)

i agree with @oliebrice they are so limitless ... responding to dynamics VERY nicely, they can roar or whisper sweetly ....

i MIGHT wanna switch that G out for a pirazzi slap, but then again that might be too GUTTY and dull, relative to the rest of the set.

i'm finding it very romantic to never switch strings out again .... an attempt to cure my sickness.....:cool::cool:

Dutch, I think you're right about the Pirazzi Slap G. I have Spiro Mittels on my Czech flatback and Pirazzi Slaps on the Upton...I'm really digging the completely different voices of these two instruments. I would not put a Slap G with the Spiros on either of my basses, no way, not me anyway. YMMV.

The pirazzi slap synthetic D I tried blew me away ... like SO close to the Gut sound + the diameter was spot on too ... crazy good
