Squier Affinity Club

Got home yesterdayfor a few days and decided to do some work on my affinity P. The waterslide decals I order from TB member lavmonga had arrived and I was anxious to put them on.

I took off my bass extender key, other three tuning keys, strings and string tree. I then took some painters tape and tape off places I didnt want steel wool to be attracted such as the magnetic pickup poles, truss rod access port and the nut.

Then I lightly sanded the decal off the headstock while also taking a fine layer of finish off the entire headstock to keep it all even. Surprisingly the Squire decal or stamp came off easily so not much of the finish needed to be evened out.

The waterslide decals looked great and were extremely easy to apply, Im letting them dry overnight before I apply a few coats of clear.

Heres the headstock with new decals freshly applied:

Ill post more after I apply the clear coat and put things back together.

I put new pots, jack and a cap on it last month and something isnt right so I'll have to get to that next month.

Pic for above post.

I just picked up an Affinity of CL for 50 bucks.Needed a good cleanup and a setup. It looks like a wolverine tore into it;dents, dings, chips, scratches, etc. It is a darker red with white pickguard and plays pretty well.Nice backup to the backup or for those gigs that could get ugly. Not worried about getting it knocked over or stolen. Are there numbers available?

By itself the amp (which after some research seems to have come with the bass, as well as a decent fender gigbag, cable and extremely lightweight strap) is at best a low volume practice amp for my upstairs office. But when I run my MXR bass di+ into it it becomes an incredibly sweet sounding low volume practice amp for my upstairs office!

This is my first post, so Hi to you all. I'd like to be in the Affinity club! Maybe the first UK member?

Here's my Chinese Squire P-Bass, No CY01056041. I can't see why I'd ever sell it, it will always be handy as a back up and I won't be afraid to strip it and rebuild it at some point.

I've owned it 10 years but I only really started learning it 5 months ago.

I've put Rotosound 66 strings on it; now that it's settled in, it sounds great. I've got EQ on my Stagg CA20B which helps me get the tones I like. Mostly I play Pixies, Green Day, The Clash and Stranglers tunes so far, which sound good on my guitar. It gives me 1 or 2 hours enjoyment every day and sounds like what I'm trying to play. It cost me 160 pounds new, including the amp.

I'm probably in camp 3 from the first page of the thread, as I have yet to play any other Bass. I presumed I'd get a P-Bass, but now I'm not going to judge until I have played a few others. I'm looking at 700-1000 of our English pounds for a new guitar and amp so I won't be rushing into it.

One question I have for anyone who knows:- How easy is it to upgrade pups on the affinity? If I can fit P Bass or better pups and strings, I might already have a decent P Bass......like the man on here said, it's not the wood it's the bits fitted to it.

Quick update, I have replaced my poorly cut, stock, single ply pickguard with a vintage style repop. Had to redrill most of the holes but the fit is soooo much better! First I tried out some Gibson style knobs but went back to the J-bass knobs (they are still my favorite on Fender basses) I removed the Squier logo but have not sanded yet in preparation to color-match the headstock. Will post pics of completed project as soon as I'm done.

Here's mine.....Affinity body with a Deluxe Jazz neck with an ebonol fretboard. Replaced the stock pickup with a SD BassLines. Since its very hard to find pickguards for these, I just bought some vinyl and covered the stock one. Its a little rough around the edges but I'll redo it eventually. Old bridge frrom an MB4 and Jazz knobs. Strings are GHS pressurewounds. I like the way it has turned out so far. Going to add a stacked J pickup at the bridge next.
