Squier Affinity Jaguar Bass...H?!

I got one of these a couple weeks ago just as a backup, but then the short scale backup I wanted finally came in stock. I’m really impressed by this bass! The neck feels so comfortable and the edges are great, and that tone is just right up my alley. In between fat P and MM. I have it up for sale, but I’m honestly not minding having it around to pick up every once in a while. View attachment 4883673
What short scale did you get? If you got photos of it even better.

Ibanez TMB35. I have a Maruszczyk 30” 5 string that’s my main bass, and I wanted a backup that can do all the same things if needed. The Ibanez has been very hard to find.

Just got my bass back from the Doc and he gave it a full setup, installed the Seymour Duncan SMB-4A, hipshot bridge, and new strings.

The volume knob is push pull so you get the MM and the P bass sound. Also changed the stock knobs since they didn't work with the push pull.

Also, the bridge didn't stick over the butt as much as I thought it might. Very happy about that.

Next upgrade will be lighter tuners to deal with the ever so slight neck dive I get. Not an emergency.

Playing a Xmas concert out on the town tomorrow night so I'll really get to test it out. Gonna be cold outside!

I'm very happy with how this turned out.

That's cool, the kickass looks fine. did you swap out the tuners?

I'm sure it's been discussed, but at 36 pages it's proving hard to find the answer.

What is the most popular lightweight tuner replacement for these? Hipshot ultra-lites and drill a hole? Or are there lightweight drop-ins?

Yep, same question I have.
I’ve read this entire Jaguar H thread and there’s lots of talk about bridges but almost no mention of what lightweight tuner’s that are drop in replacement’s or just needing a single hole drilled.
If anyone could be specific on which brand and model number lite tuners y’all have used that would be greatly appreciated.
I’ve been looking at Hipshot and Resolite tuners but have no idea what model numbers of these two choices might the fit.
Model numbers of the Hipshot and Resolites would definitely be very helpful ?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers, Davyo

That's rad. How does the blademan sound?

I have the CFM and thinking of similar.

Thank you. It sounds MASSIVE!
It's like a P-Bass on steroids. I bet the position of the pickup has a ton to do with that. There's a lot more definition and flexibility with the Big Blademan 4 than with the stock pickup (which was super dark and that comes from a guy that always rolls down the treble knob and closes the tone knob).

Is that the charcoal color? Looks like mine, the headstock looks good. What did you do to match it?

Yes, it's the charcoal frost metallic. I could not match the headstock like-for-like. The headstock is a tad darker but something I can live with (it's actually almost identical to my Squier Charcoal Frost Metallic Jaguar though). I just bought metallic grey spray paint and went to town :)

With the right EQ and flats, it definitely can.

Can you confirm if you used 1/2" or 3/8" sized tuners? I still haven't found a definitive answer. Thanks!

Still psyched on this bass. But after some time it's clear the body shape makes it quite hard to play at the 19th or 20th fret. Much more so than a jazz or P bass.

Oh well, prob for the best.
for sitting down at least i find this bass easier to play on the left leg. the scale length keeps the 1st fret close enough while making the 20th easier .. i don't play live really so can't comment on that aspect as much

I'm the same as you. Don't play out and love playing in classical position. Still find it tough to play shapes spanning all strings above the 19th. But you can still get up there on the G string, at least.
