Squier Affinity Jaguar Bass...H?!

How was the noise level? Im getting a ton of buzz with the Wilkinson but it could be because the bass has no shielding.
I barely tried it, but it seemed fine for noise, or at least no worse. I guess I’d be concerned I didn’t wire it right if it was a ton of buzz. I compared the Affinity to the Chris Aiken P-bass that I really love, this was through the old Ampeg and also a Kemper amp and headphones just to see if it was in the ballpark for tone. Tomorrow I’ll check more thoroughly and also change the strings to the same Ernie Ball set that’s on the P-bass. Maybe that gets me closer for tone. If the Amazon pickup seems more noisy through my gigging amp I’ll let you know.

Update, I’ve done a thorough shielding job which killed all of the hum when the volume is down. The hum is very prominent with the volume up, which tells me the coils in this pickup are wired in phase. It’s a good thing in that it’ll keep the signal a little more beefy as opposed to out of phase, but it’ll always buzz.

I recommend shielding for everyone who buys this bass regardless of whether you keep the original pickup or not. There is none from the factory and it buzzes really badly as a result.

What about swap the 500k volume pot to 250k?

So… who’s gonna send in their pickguard to WDMusic so we can have a template ready? Haha!
Talked with WD the other day. They haven't had anyone in yet. I have mine scanned, but I think I have to send it in as I have two others that didn't fit in my scanner. Feel free to use the scan if you want. But be aware the original cut for the pickup is a bit small. I don't know how to fix it as of now.

Regarding changing pickguard- I’ve had great luck using the adhesve paper used for lining drawers to customize a pickguard. Looks awesome, is plenty durable and there’s nearly limitless options. WDM/Troy is awesome tho and he’ll have this scanned and ready to cut soon probably regardless.

Explain further

Few Cort jazz bass type bass I been setup with on board electronic which use 500K volume pot, and notable hiss even all knobs set flat. Once I swap with 250K pot, it eliminate some amount of hiss in good way especially while turn up the treble knob, meanwhile just loss tiny amount of top zing.

But, I am not sure is it work on jaguar H hiss issue or not, but maybe worth for a try since 250k pot are cheap.

Saw one of the Lake Placid Blue in my local GC, tried it and I was pleasantly surprised. I couldn’t put the thing down. I was so close to buying it, but I was on my lunch break and I didn’t want to make a decision on the spot.

I’m probably going back tomorrow to get it.

Aaaand I bought it today. I was able to play it with a Rumble 100 in store for a good 40 minutes and decided to bite the bullet. I got it for a discounted $205.99 due to scuffs in the back and a small paint chip by the neck pocket. I didn’t care about those things, just my first time talking the price down at GC and it felt good!

Photos when I get home, I’m still at work. Ha!

Curious. I got home and started online shopping for gig bags. Laid both my Jaguar and SB14 on the floor to start measuring… lo and behold they are practically the same length. They measure between 44 and 45 inches.

(I know, sorry, the Sterling SB14 looks weird without the pickguard)
How is that curious? Four inline headstock is considerably longer than three over one under.

Well, it just goes to show how small they made the Sterling body and headstock. Nothing to fuss about. I just wasn’t expecting a 32” bass (my first non-34” by the way) to be the same overall length as a 34”.

Don't apologize, guardless Sterling looks great!
