My 5 year old Indonesian Jazz neck screws are fine. No complaints here
Maybe there was a bad batch, I recall a least one other member here complaining about them (sorry, I forget who). They felt very poor quality, I was scared I was going to shear the screw head off putting the neck back on.
My VM is a 2012.
2012 came with Duncan designed pick ups didn't? I think they stopped a year before mine.
I have some Dimazio Area J's coming next month. Really intrigued by haw it will change it's sound. I also have a Fender High Mass bridge to fit at the same time, but I'm not convinced it's bringing anything other than looks to the update.

There are good and bad ones in the batches that come from the Indonesian Cor-Tek factory (ICS serial numbers). Have to try them out before buying, don't recommend buying online. Nice to hear you got a good one
Yes, they changed from satin to gloss finish on some models and removed the "Duncan designed" pickups (and added a bunch of models to the range) in 2013. Not sure what pickups they changed to, but most likely another outsourced part, I don't know the overall quality of those, so I don't know how it will change with the Areas. Most of the CV pickups are identical to Tone Riders, which I like, so I have more confidence buying a CV than a VM in that area if I'm keeping the stock pickups.
You most likely will notice a difference with the high mass bridge, it will cause more frequencies to be "reflected" at the bridge instead of transfered (with a different spectrum of frequencies). How this affects a bass is specific to the bass and the tonal character of the current bridge / body combination. You will probably find it has a little more initial attack, but with less note "bloom" afterwards, but the changes may be very subtle and hard to know which changes are pickups-specific and which are down to the bridge if you change both at the same time. I'd do the changes one by one to see how I like them and then choose the combination that I think works best. Depends on the individual bass...

Sadowsky's knobs have two set screws & include optional bushings. Don't skimp on the lil things!

I wonder if there's a difference between MIC and CIC versions, like Fender Japan MIJ vs. CIJ versions.

I wouldn't trust any pictures from Fender yet. I'm not saying they WILL have a skunk stripe but I won't be the slightest bit surprised if they do. It wouldn't be the first time pre-release pics from Fender differ considerably from the actual production instrument.
Also, I'm starting to wonder if the CV Mustang will ever show up or if it's just clever marketing to cause Mustang GAS and sell more Vinteras. My local dealer says expected delivery is now March 2020... but Fender/Squier generally arrives late in my part of the world.
I've been keeping an eye on the ship dates here in the US too. They're pushed back to next year now.
I guess they'll announce them again at 2020 NAMM.
I found this thread after I ordered my 70's Jazz left handed from Sweetwater. Read the whole thing and went through buyer's remorse then hope then optimism. It arrived today, two days early. So far so good. I was prepared to be critical, but the fit and finish are really phenomenal. Neck pocket is snug, all screws tight, perfect paint. I haven't plugged it in yet so I'll get back to you folks on all that, but the acoustic sound is full leaning towards bright. Surprisingly loud, really. This is the poplar body, Sweetwater had it listed as 8lb even. The other one they had was 9lb, 3oz, and is the current black lefty on Sweetwater. That one has an obvious neck pocket gap and some knots on the neck, and I decided lighter is probably better anyways. My initial impressions are very very positive. I'll attach a couple of photos and try to update as I delve deeper. I really am impressed at the look and feel of it. I am on of those Lefty's who learned and is committed to an upside down string path, so I have some work to do flipping the nut and re-intonating.

Yeah, that really cracked me up about that whole series. The stock bass looked and sounded better than the 'upgraded' one at the end.
Here's the 2nd gen Squier CV 60s Jazz in Daphne Blue from a friend on facebook. He changed the tuners and the bridge, because they were bad. Then he went for a double vol/tone control plate and the tone got warmer.
He then bought a pair of Fender Custom Shop 60s Jazz pickups. NO CHANGE AT ALL. He made recordings, we analysed the audio in Audacity with the spectrum analyser. Incredible. Pure steal!!
Offered him a bit of brass stripe to give the full 60-62 look and...

That blue is REALLY nice.. I don't know if it's the stock guard, or just the photos I've seen on retailers websites, but I didn't know it looked that good. I'm half tempted to get one now, but I'd need to stick a maple neck on it for my preferred board, then I may as well get some Ultralites.. could get very pricey.
