Hey. Are the indonesian classic vibes of similar quality to the Chinese ones or is that not the case? I played a new classic vibe 60's jazz bass and thought it was better than the player series. Is that the consensus? Am I crazy? Should I look for a used Chinese Squier classic vibe jazz bass? Thanks.
The Chinese models where a lot better in terms both of hardware and bild quality. A significant number of new basses have been reported having faulty truss rods.
This doesn't mean they are crap but the chances of getting a lemon are there. Many more people have have had no complaints.
It's just that the Chinese basses where bullet proof and killer players.
In my experience, soft basswood bodies are the opposite of bullet proof.
My 2019 Indonesian made Classic Vibe 50's Precision ('54 P) Bass made by Samick has very good fit/finish and materials as far as I can tell.
The tobacco sunburst finished body is made of pine that is definitely harder than the China made basswood bodies and it balances properly on a strap and on a knee.
It appears to be a two piece body but the grain match is so good on this particular one it was really hard to tell if it is more than one piece.
It also has a bridge that matches the Fender standard string spacing and Fender five hole mounting pattern, the Chinese made Classic Vibe 50's ones did not.
The nut is bone and is 1.685 wide so wider than a 1.5 Jazz nut, I think the China made ones had plastic nuts.
The neck size feels not toothpick-ish so maybe a bit toward the 50's feel, and the frets needed no work.
Fretboard edges are nice and soft to the touch (rolled feel), much softer than the edgey 2019 (Mexican made) Player Series Jazz bass neck that I bought and sold.
Set up was a piece of cake and it has been stable over the winter and into our warm Texas spring, so no truss rod issues here.
I've heard that the Cort made Indonesian Classic Vibe basses are not as well made as these but I've not touched one.
I would rather have this Classic Vibe 50's Precision over the previous China made 50's for the pine body wood, proper bridge and bone nut alone.
