Squier Classic Vibe 50's P-bass pickguard replacement

Hi,

I just bought a Squier Classic Vibe 50’s P-Bass as a back up and I'm thinking about replacing the stock white pickguard on it to a black one.

I'm wondering if a standard Fender one will fit on it?

Thanks for any help!

Hopefully someone can chime in with information closer to your application. I fit an American P bass pickguard to a Squier once. Some holes didn't like up well, and the neck pocket on the guard needed to be shaved a little. The quality of the pickguard was much better on the MIA guard vs the MII Squier.

I tried to put a "Sting" Fender pickguard on mine and the holes didn't line up. So I think it's going to require a Classic Vibe pickguard. The guard was spot on, just not the holes. The douche that sold it to me didn't want to take a return and recommended that I get a luthier to professionally fill the holes and drill new holes in a $29 pickguard.

This has been my experience with the Squier P/J-Bass I have been working on. I got one of those $10 American pickguards off ebay. Drastic improvement in quality from the stock one, but all the screw holes don't line up and it needs a little shaving on the E string side of the neck pocket. It covers all the cavities just fine, and I don't mind making extra holes in bass. YMMV. There are some places that will cut custom pickguards, but it was too pricey for what I paid for the bass.

I've bought the Fender-branded pickguards off the wall at GC and put em on my Classic Vibes. Worst thing was two of the screws were a little crooked. Only a little. Not bad at all.

Also for the record, the gold anodized Fender pickguard fit on my Matt Freeman just fine too.

Good luck. The black CV guards don't seem to be easily found. I tried a Dirnt guard on mine but it was a little too wide in the horns and many of the holes didn't line up. I suspect its because of the contour vs slab body. I still browse ebay and the classifieds every once in a while looking for one. May just have to cut your own or have one cut via pickguardian or somewhere similar.

OK, i'm confused..... I've had my CV 50s for a couple of weeks now (the current "blonde" with single ply white guard.) What is the problem with this pickguard? For reference, my main bass is a 64 P and I've had a '61 Olympic white for almost 35 years. There are things I don't like about my CV, but the pickguard ain't in the top 10. The question about replacing doesn't really mention what the problem is?

For a lifetime Pbass owner/player, my top 3 issues are:
1. I'm still getting used to the pickup as my thumb rest - obviously quite different from a 60s P bass split pickup as far as your thumb is concerned
2. the truss rod adjustment is on the wrong end of the freakin' neck!
3. skunk stripe? what is this, the 70s?

on the plus side:
1. killer frets, better than any post 68 P bass I've ever played
2. tuners - I haven't owned a bass w/ new round wounds in over 20 years; I've gone months without tuning my old basses. This one is a tune-up per day. But I'm hoping that will stop once I pass 100 or so hours on the strings. But the tuners themselves are smooth and hold (and why does a 50s bass come with roundwounds?)
3. the bridge is a bit weird at first, but its nicer than the bridge on much "higher end" Fender basses; pretty nice, actually

my opinion for what little its worth
