Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision or Sterling SUB Ray4....decisions

My refund came in and I have just enough to buy either of the following:

Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision Bass in the sonic baby blue.
OR
Sterling Sub Ray 4 in seafoam green with maple fingerboard.

The Squier I can get off my local CL and the Ray 4 I can get off TB Classifieds. Decisions...decisions.

I love Precisions but I also do love the classic Musicman Stingray tone. Although I'm not a huge fan of active basses, I feel like it wouldn't hurt to have a Ray model in my arsenal. And that seafoam green just looks so amazing!!

I'm not a Musicman guy, but I guess they are a nice bass. Not my thing. I do have the CV 60's Pbass in Sonic Blue however and I think it's an excellent bass. I think it would be wise to check it out and make sure everything looks good before you buy. I've had Fender Precisions and Jazzes and I like this one better than the others I had owned. I'm not saying they are better, but they sure feel good and are built like a tank! The CV 60's pbass is getting harder and harder to find especially in Sonic Blue. If I were you I would jump on it as long as everything is good. The Ray's will probably be around for awhile so you could get one later if you want. I'm curious, what is the asking price if you don't mind divulging that info?

the Squier was to be in a package with a Beringer BM 50 amp for $400 or something but I managed to talk the guy to just selling the bass for $330. He won't go any lower. I offered 300 which is very reasonable, but since they're rare, I can't be TOO picky.

And the Ray is $215 + shipping in USD from the seller's state of residence to Canada. Yeah, in CAD it's just a bit over $300.

Like you said, the Squier in that colour is very hard to find so I may grab that

The CV60s P is a great P.

I love mine. I have compared it to many MIM and MIA fenders. While I am not saying it is better, it feels better in many ways to me. That neck is great especially if you take some scotchbrite to it. It retains that tint but is much faster. I would recommend it for anyone.

Very different than a ray. I am not a Ray guy myself.

Do you have a p right now? Do you need another? For me the only reason to have another p would be for one to wear flats and the other rounds. Anything more is overkill.

I already have a P. It's a FrankenP with a Mendel neck and a Squier body. It has rounds on it so I might get the CV to put flats on

I was very fortunate when I got mine. I was getting ready to leave GC when right there at the exit sitting in the stand is my CV 60's Pbass waiting for me to take her home! Somebody just brought it in on a trade. It was like brand new and still had the plastic on the pickguard! I asked how much and they said 200.00. I said sold! I had to wait a week to pick it up to make sure it wasn't stolen, but I was fine with that! I have since added an EMG Geezer Butler pickup and a mint green pickguard to it. I did have one high fret so I did a fret level on it, which was my first time doing it and it came out fine. I may play mine Sunday at Church. It's a toss up between it and my Ric 4003s. I think that's a decent price considering your location. Jump on it before it's too late! Let us know when you get it, and take pictures or it didn't happen as they say on these threads!

My friend swears by the TI flats but they're way too expensive. I liked the d'addario chromes that I once had. Never tried EB though. Their rounds die quicker than Rotosounds but never tried the flats

The Sonic Blue comes with the bridge cover. I bought the pickup cover for about 10.00 on ebay.
I hope yours has the bridge cover. If not you may want to point that out to the seller. It may help you negotiate a better price! Get as much info as you can on it if it don't have it so you can show that it's a stock item. Maybe check ebay for the price of a new one

He has pictures and the thumbrest and bridge cover are attached. I'll make sure to tell him to keep those one when we meet up for the transaction.

It looks nice with the pickup cover on, but it really isn't practical unless you play with a pick. Then you can rest your hand on it and play closer to the neck. It only takes a second to put on or remove anyway! When are you checking out the bass? I'm kind of excited to see some pics and see what you think! I don't know how they sold them as cheap as they did. The build quality is quite nice.

I'm also considering getting a MIM maple Precision neck off Fender. PRetty good price...$199.99 plus tax. I did it before with my old MIM Jazz because the original neck was just hard to work with, so when I got the maple one, it was amazing.

I might consider doing the same for my Precision...and sell the Mendel neck. It feels like a Jazz neck to me...even though i's literally 0.01" narrower than a standard Precision nut width. It's weird how my hands are super sensitive to that slight difference.
