That's true on the mods. Not going to complain about them, but I'm not really sure they were needed (other than sanding down that weird tacky gloss).

M123 pricematched against the $299.99 bass on Amazon (Fuller's Vintage Guitar) and came up with $244.99 w. free ship. I don't understand their math, but it sure is tempting. I'll pass it along to someone else before it expires if I decide not to buy it myself.

Here's my new toy.
Switchcraft jack / modded for right angle cords, SCPB3 pup, orange drop cap, CTS pots, new wiring, sanded neck, and black painted pickguard all done by the prior owner.

I don't have a problem plugging my right angle cords into my P-50's
What does the "Orange Drop Cap" do? I've heard it before but never knew what it was or did

Yeah, my Neutrik right angle works without issue. The Orange drop cap is a tone capacitor upgrade. The tone cap is the component attached to the tone pot which turns it into the high pass filter that it is... cutting high freq. Whether or not they make a difference is up to individual perception. Mojo. I use Soviet military surplus paper in oil (pio) caps, cheap and to me its just for - - - - - 'n' giggles. Mojo. Ha, I saw an ebay ad saying "don't trust Soviet caps, buy genuine made in USA PIO caps... " they were asking about 15 bucks each! LOL!

Hmmmm, I doubt I'll be using those anytime soon, I always use both knobs maxed out
... now that I think about it, I don't even know why I upgraded the pots

I don't use the tone pot much either, but I always leave the knob at about 95%, to me it sounds just a bit fuller with a little off the top; just enough that the circuit is in play. Mojo?

A couple of random questions about the fiesta red CV 60s p. (PS I haven't read the whole thread ) 1 I read in another thread that a standard bridge cover won't fit over this bridge. Is that right? 2) has anyone droped a 62 reissue pickup in one of these? just curious to know any comparisons to the stock pickup ie was it worth it. Oh and 3) how's the neck. I know its g gloss and has a 1.65 w width at the nut, but what about front to back thickness? Is it thin or nice and chunky? Thank you!

As far as the pickup goes and this IS just me, If you're short on cash, I would wait, I found that the differences was small TO ME, somebody else may find more. having said that, I will keep my 62 RI pickup in, I like the little difference I hear.

I swapped the puickup out of my CV-P with Fralin's, swapped out the wiring for fender vintage wiring and went with flat's and i LOVE what i hear vs the original setup...

I guess all of the mod's combined are equally responsible

Thanks! I guess I probably could have googled searched that.. my bad but thanks for real.

About the pickup, thanks. I think if I get one, I will wait and hear it first. I love the sound of the 62RI, but I should probably wait and hear just how close it is. Especially if the stock pickup has a nice old school tone.

I would say that the biggest differnce by far is swapping to flats.
Just IMHO

Definitively not chunky. Wide but thin. That's what I like about it.

I am using big ass flats on my P.
50-110, that would just about make anything sound different

Ok, quick question....I changed my pickup not too long ago, complete with the typical CTS and orange drop electronics. But the volume seems to be less, unless I fully crank it. Tone works nice.

With the stock alpha pots, I turned the volume up a little and I would get audible increase in volume....with the CTS, like I say, I have to turn almost all the way up (to 11) for the volume to be up there were I want it. Actually in gig situation I have to max it out.

What exactly do you mean? Do I want lower volume overall?? Or to have the volume pot maxed out?

Max the volume pot, since that has to drive the rest of your signal chain. On a J bass, you can have one volume at less than max, to achieve a different tone, but on a P, you need to really crank it, so that the fullness of the tone comes through. You then temper it a bit, with your tone pot, and if that does not suit your tastes, then your amp's EQ, or some other outboard EQ (or pedal preamp) might be your thing. I have come to swear by my VT Bass Deluxe for larger gigs, where I need a lot of tonal versatility.
