Still not the best pictures, but better than the phone. The good news is my vintage style bridge fit! The high mass bridge was nice, but I just like the vintage look and the cover does fit better now.
I really love the finish. Can't wait to get the tort guard on.

I just want to see how it will look with the tort. Somethin' different from the black. If I don't like it, then the tort guard will just go in the bass stuff box with the HM bridge.
I was planning on another 50s bass to have refinished in a sunburst so if I do that, I know the tort guard will look good.
But I'll post up pics when it gets here...

It's a fine looking bass, I'd be tempted to replica it.

I would love to give this bass a little relic treatment. It's just somethin' I don't think I could do. I would end up makin' it look like crap probably.
I wouldn't want to make it look like it's a worn out 60 year old bass. But would like to make the finish look more dull as well as the chrome hardware so it doesn't look so shiny.
But I love it as is, so not gonna mess with it.

I'm going to take advantage of my local independent music store (chain of three local stores) to honour other retailers' coupons.
It means the Fiesta Red CV Precision could be coming home with me tomorrow! Unless I try something else that blows my mind for the same price, that is.
Got a gig Friday, so it's "needed" as a back up (wants vs. needs). Might even just play the show with it!

hay i have a lovely classic vibe in white and was thinking of going to a different PG. who makes a aftermarket Pg that fits. or is there a older model that has the same pickgaurd specks.
You don't have to relic it at all... I was thinking more of maybe vintage style machines. Poss upgrade pups. That sort of thing.
And I just had to try out that CV jazz too. Oh man!

These are just extremely good basses.
I tried the Squier Jaguar (Humbucker/Active): Good sound, but not my sound. Odd neck. Felt cheap - like I'd get a splinter.
I tried the Squier PJ (P+J/Passive): Neck was kinda V shaped (and not in a good, WAL sort of way either), and the tone control was odd. Wasn't quite a P. Wasn't quite a Jazz. Sounded dull.
I tried the 50s P CV (Passive): Sound was nice, but nothing to blow my socks off, and the neck was huge for me. Nice bass. Not my bass.
I tried the CV P (Passive) in Fiesta Red
: Love the shape and feel of the neck. Like the way it's built. Like the way it plays. Love the way it sounds. Tiny bit more aggressive that a true 60s P, but lovely tone. Felt like shaking hands with an old friend. Buying it. Then I tried the CV Jazz: Dammit. Too nice.
Will have to save my pennies. This is a truly great bass too.

@ThudThudThud, the Jag you tried out, was it the block neck one? I was thinkin' about buyin' the bass just for the neck.

No, the silver one with the humbucker, RW fingerboard with dots. Nice shape, I just don't like unfinished necks.
I have the one with the rectangular inlays (and the black headstock): very nice neck, I think, satin finish at the back close to that of the actual MIA Fenders. I prefer that finish over gloss, which tends to get sticky on moist hands...
Thats the one i quite fancy getting. Ive always hated the look of Jags but i guess as im getting older my tastes are changing.
I'm not a fan of the Jag style. I'm just needin' a rosewood block neck for a project and prefer a "Fender" headstock. Also want the truss adjust at the headstock cause don't the necks with the adjustments at the heel has to be removed for adjustments? And then again, I really don't want to pay $300+ for a allparts neck.
But yea, I just picked up a VM Jazz in classifieds and I'm thinkin' about strippin' the body and have it finished in CAR and get a block neck and have a matchin' headstock. Like the 50th anniversary Jazz....or the Jazz Jermaine Jackson played in the early 70s. Love it. Except I'm gonna keep it true to the Squier name. I'm gonna see if one of the guys who makes the custom waterslide decals can make me a Squier Jazz Bass decal in the same style of the Fender. So it's similar, but not puttin' Fender on a Squier tryin' to pass it off as a Fender. Or I might just leave it blank.
So, I'm probably gonna swing by GC tomorrow and see if they have one in stock and hopefully it'll have a ding or scratch I can talk them down and use the 15% off coupon. I just want the neck so I'll end up either puttin the maple/black block neck on the Jag body (would probably look pretty sweet) and sellin' it or just sell neck/body separate.

The tort guard came in today and it's a keeper. I really like it. I know the black looks awesome and classic. So, I'm gonna hold onto it in case I do want to switch back. Didn't have time to actually put it on, but laid it over the black guard and snapped a shot with the camera phone.
