Squier Classic Vibe Club (Part 3)

They may be 10mm as it's an import.

EDIT: Not 10mm. I measured my recently purchased CV. The hole came out to be about 17-18mm. The imports are all over the place with those measurements. I would measure first, then order.

Gents,

I have a MII CV '70 Black bass already upgraded with DiMarzio DP122 pickup, TUSQ nut and a Fender Hi-Mass bridge and this bass sound something extremely great in this configuration. This afternoon I removed the neck and the tuning machines and sanded off the heavy shiny coat from the back and both sides of the neck. It looks and feels like a Fender neck now and I have to tell that the touch and play-ability has been improved a lot, too. This is a great bass right now.

Sounds like solid choices on the upgrades :thumbsup: many knock down the heavy gloss necks with Scotchbrite pads or steel wool...

All aboard the Roasted-Maple-Train! CHOO-CHOO!! (...not that I have any problem with that whatsoever! :D)

I like their take on Lake Placid Blue. I've never seen it that dark before, but I'm guessing that's what the "D" in "DLPB" stands for.

Hi,

Took some this morning. It is hard to read the DiMarzio on the PU, though. If you see carefully, you can see that the body mirrors the neck, but the neck does not mirror the body black. The satin finish I could reach after the sanding is just as smooth as on the Fender AmPro II Strat or on the sunburst Fender Strat or on the Ibanez RG560 in the background. I am really satisfied with the result.

It is deep lake placid blue, colour a like the blue on Yamaha BB434 but more vivid.
2 new colour are seafoam green and shell pink . Just lacking another 2 awesome colour ~ burgundy mist and shoreline gold.

bottom pic is raw sanded, top pic is finsihed.

i used Stewmac Straw tint and tung oil - very light.

220 to 1500 grit.

took some elbow grease to get it to show!

what a difference in feel from the gloss poly - man, they lay it on thick.

When I sanded my neck, I completely removed it as well as the tuning machines and the string tree to ensure all back and side areas are equally sanded. I think this gives you a bit nicer look and making sure that you see same shine from any angle.
The backside of the head was sanded, too. Interestingly I tried to sand carefully but I am pretty sure that the varnish is so thick that it would take a lot of efforts to destroy the text applied by Squire.

I am planning to do the same sanding on my CV50s Strat soon, hope to have same silky finish. It is a tribute project guitar. I am still thinking to sand off the head completely and use personal logos but to do this I have to find a similar yellowish varnish here in Hungary, Europe. I love the CV necks' colour and shade, it is simply gorgeous.

I didn't want to sand off the headstock and lose the logo and serial.

However, with my 2014 Squier CV '60s Strat (CIC), i didn't care. Terrible neck build, but lovely body.

Fender roasted neck was a perfect fit!

Sold my Suhr S and kept this.
920D loaded guard and Calaham bridge and trem. Fender locking tuners.

I sanded the neck on my Squier VM Fretless jazz as well.

Squier would do well to offer a CV line without poly neck coating.

It's an awful finish for a neck.
