I stripped down my CIC 2013 Jazz when I got it as it needed a good clean and setup. I can say emphatically the body is made of alder. I've had literally dozens of basses since 1963, including 7 or 8 USA Fenders, so I can spot alder easily. Every screw on this one was tight, in fact I had to put a little dab of soap on some of the screws to get them back in without damaging the heads.

Haha..... Could be accidentally mix the wood by worker during body cut ?

Me also did like you every time I get a new bass, will clean the neck pocket first.

Need mention here, most Indo Squier bass from VM to current CV I been own , there always has wax dust and poly paint leave inside neck pocket . No such issue on CIC CV .

How much your CV60J weight? The one I been own was 10.5lbs. I swap the bridge to fender vintage bridge to reduce the weights, but no much help.

I also install Gotoh re-o-rite GB640 to reduce CIC CV50P weight Seriously envy those CIC CV bass owner that weight less than 9lbs.

I recall he install a set of Apollo J on his CV60J.

If those are Aguilar pickups then yes.

Apollo pickups are Seymour Duncan. He installed Aguilar AG-4J HC…hence being at the Aguilar Loft…

Yahboy, mine weighs 4.2kg (9.25 lbs) so it's heavy but balances perfectly with the Hipshot Ultralite tuners, so the weight is not apparent, especially with the SBL wide padded leather strap. I'm 75 with a bad back, but I can do a 3 hour gig no problem. I was going to put my vintage Fender bridge on, but the mounting holes are different, so I left the brass saddle bridge on it. I have a pair of DiMarzio UltraJazz pickups coming and then I'm done. As good as any of the MIA Fenders I've ever owned.

4.2kg are pretty std weight for jazz bass , and most important thing is she has no neck dive issue.

Regard the bridge swap, i been share in earlier post, i swap all my CV bass bridge with Fender Vintage bridge myself. Need fill and re drill process, not big deal for me.

The before/after result on my swap is, stock himass bridge sound more snappy and crisp, make the G string dead spot less notable ; meanwhile vintage bridge sound more woody classic and fatter. If you prefer roundwound bass string, just keep it stock. I use flatwound on all my CIC CV bass , even current indo version , the vintage bridge work for me, especially low action and tone just right to my ear.

The Ultra Jazz pup are one of my favorite J pup, some ppl said sound too scoop, but certain bass string can compensate it or Amp EQ tweak , for me, DR lo rider match the Ultra J pretty well.

Yep. The CV series came to an end, then was revived to subsume the Vintage Modified series. So, while they’re likely being manufactured by the same hands that produced the VM’s, the CV’s still have a few, key differences in parts and specs.

I own earlier VM 70/77/std. The last STD VM I bought, side by side compare to Daphne blue CV bass, everything just same include the neck profile , dull Lauren fret board wood and pickups. The only difference are bridge saddle, hardware coat, neck tinted, tuning machines and knobs.

With respect, I must disagree. They're not just rebranded VM's. The Indonesian-made CV '70s have '70s-era pickup spacing. The VM '70s had '60s-era spacing.

Also, and this is merely a cosmetic change, the new CV '70s Jazz necks have a darker, amber/vintage tint to their all-maple necks.

The major point i mention more on both VM STD J and indo CV 60s Jazz bass. Indo CV70 has different bridge pickups placement to VM70/77 and fretboard inlay on 77. Sorry for unclear describe....

Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a pickle and could use some advice! I currently aquired a Fender Players Jazz bass through a local trade, only to be reminded (yet again) that I am much more of a Precision guy than Jazz guy. That being said, locally someone has a Squier CV 50s P (one of the new ones, not CIC) that they are willing to trade (plus some cash on their end). Also, I have an offer of a G&L Tribute LB-100. I've read great things about the Tributes, minus some minor QC issues, but haven't seen to much solid info on the Squier CV 50s P. I'm sure they have been written about in this thread but I can't recall at the moment what was said.

Anyone have any thoughts about the Squier? I saw some things written here on TB about it being "bright" which I know can be helped with flatwounds, but is it really a bright bass? If I know I like P basses, would I be happy with the sound or should I just go with the G&L Tribute as it is much more standard P-ish?

The pickup placement on the 50s is gonna be *ever* so slightly different to what you're used to with the split-coil, but I wouldn't necessarily say it's a way brighter bass or anything. Indeed, flats would tame most of that brightness, if indeed there were any. But then, if you're also a P guy, perhaps it would be good to have a slightly different flavour of that tone at your disposal. Only you can really answer that for sure, but to my ears, a 50s P still sounds rather a lot like a P!

I have a set of GHS Pressurewounds that I'd most likely try on it first. I'm thinking that might get me most of the way there. There is a preamp pedal I'm really wanting to pick up but I'm short on cash so if I made the trade and got the extra cash I'd be there!

Sounds good! I have Labella flats on a standard P style bass right now set up BEAD that just sounds monstorous, so I'm gonna try the Pressurewounds on the Squier first.

I'd like to replace the tuner (or all four) with something that matches the OEM tuners and doesn't require new holes to be drilled or old holes to be resized. Does anyone know a source for OEM-type tuners for the 2010 CV 50’s P-bass?

I am almost positive this is the P/N for the tuners on the early CV 50's bass 0074937000 I don't think fender sells them any longer but I have seen OEM tuners for 50's CV's with this part# on Ebay/Reverb. At least it's a place to start. Or Hipshot HB-1? GL!
