It's been years since I tried the DR Legends, but yeah...those "zeros" match my memory of them.
That, too, sounds like a good comparison. I could see them working fine in a Country (...and Western!
) setting, as well as Reggae and the aforementioned Motown genres.
I feel where you're coming from.
My favorite flats are from around 1999, I just put them on my new CV 50's P, and they sound great.
Just wish I remembered what they are.
I have a set that will be going on my Fiesta Red P once I knock out a few gigs that requires Roundwounds in the next few weeks. I did have them on my Black 70's CV precision and they sounded great. Like others have said, they have a very smooth and fat sound, that lacks sustain and treble. I begrudgingly had to use that bass for a rehearsal with an Incubus tribute band and believe it or not, the strings sounded HUGE and very tasty in the mix. Like I said, first chance I get, they are going on my Pino clone.
For reference, I also have La Bella 760FL's, EB cobalt flats, and GHS precision flats all coiled up on my desk… the DR's just sound and feel the best to me in the mix.
Reserve for me until the day I go to pickup.

Can anyone tell me what the going market rate is for one of these used (blue or fiesta red CIC CV60P)?
Ooh ooh! Just found this on Sweetwater Invalid Link Removed. "Player-friendly features include a slim, comfortable "C"-shaped neck profile with an easy-playing 9.5"-radius fingerboard and narrow-tall frets as well as a vintage-style bridge with threaded saddles." Maybe this instead, very tempting at that price. Anyone have any input on something like this one?
Yes, I have a 2019 Indonesian made (Samick) and it's a very nice bass.
The fit and finish is very good, I got the sunburst and it is beautiful.
The body is pine and way better than the too soft basswood that they used for the older Chinese made one.
The bridge has the correct Fender five screw mount spacing and the saddle/string spacing is 19mm so all Fender and aftermarket will fit.
The older Chinese bridges spec'ed a non Fender mounting standard.
Mine set up easily and the neck has been very stable.
Tuners are good not great but that is what you usually get with a Squier bass.
I don't care for any single coil hum so I pulled the stock pickup, but the stock pickup has good tone, I put in a Duncan Stinger Stacked pickup like Sting's and Dusty Hill's basses.
For the money, I think this bass is a killer.

There are 3 red and one blue that I know of listed here in classifieds . They seem to be priced about right.
I'd say $500 give or take either way. Depending on condition and if price includes shipping and a case or good gig bag. Some like me prefer TI flats and with the higher cost of those strings comes a higher price on the bass.
I'd say start at $500 and add or subtract accordingly.
Perhaps. They sold out by the time I found out. I left a message to see if they'll still sell these for the price for pre-order.
My Fiesta Red was $530. Another sold locally for $650. You're going to pay at least $500 for the Fiesta Red because of two words… Pino Palladino
