The body looks sort of salmon pink in that pic. Is the tort causing that effect?
Unfortunately, really good tort is super expensive these days, hard to get the depth that old tort had.
Here is a tort guard a guy in Scotland made for me recently, I like it for what I paid for it.

Actually, you're not alone, there. I've been saying the exact same thing for years, just not too frequently so as not to attract the ire of "The Cult of Tort". :cautious:

If they had a translucent tortoise shell layer (simulated, of course, 'cuz the real stuff has been whoa-butch-illegal since the '70s) on top of a single layer underneath...white, parchment, cream or something like that...then I might take more of a shine to it. These lil' beggars have that look, so why not pickguards? Too expensive to manufacture or something? :bored:

I think so, but I could be proven wrong. The 2019 model I bought (...to harvest it's neck for a parts-bass Projekt :whistle:) at the launching of the series' second generation certainly had it.

Yeah for sure, I've definitely upgraded my fair share of basses with crappy tuners to gotohs, hipshots, and grovers... but honestly I think these early CIC ones are pretty good for what they are, ya know?

Oh I agree! I have two CIC CV's and both have their original tuners. My Indo has the best tuners out of all of my instruments now because one of the stock tuners arrived bad from the factory. The Chinese ones are still kicking after 13 years.

You should check out some abalone guards. I think it might end up going pretty well with your bass :thumbsup:

I wouldn't say it's brave… I would say it's both smart and fair. Those instruments were 50% off the normal selling price. If you got one, then you're lucky, but that doesn't mean that classic vibes are all of a sudden $120 instruments on the used market.


Edit to add: sometimes the stupid deal of the day, or daily pick, or whatever daily blow out special the big companies are having ends up being cheaper than the same item goes for on the used market… and it sucks for the used market sellers for 24 hours… and then the item is back to being worth what it's worth. Is what it is.

I don't disagree with you at all. There are just so many of us who saw the deal. I'm always in the boat of people asking whatever they want for an item. I love mine, and it was totally worth the purchase

If I ever decide to sell it, I know that I'm probably going to want a little more than I paid for it. I assume that at that point, inflation will have driven the price of new classic vibes up a little bit, and used prices will go up accordingly as well. It may be painful for a talkbasser that's aware of the original sale price, but I'm guessing that most people on your local Facebook marketplace are probably oblivious to the fact that we practically stole these instruments :cool:

More red, for sure. The stock one on my CV60's P is really brownish and as someone else already put it hilariously, "pepperoni vomit ".:laugh:

If you ask me, a red tort guard on a red body is darn near perfection.

Well crap! I thought I had a pic on here of my '18 Player Jazz in Sonic Red with the red tort guard that came stock with my '95 MIJ '62 RI (it now wears a black one). It's gorgeous but it's too late here to drag it out for a pic atm. I'll post one tomorrow.

Idk why a nice red tort that isn't priced through the roof is so hard to find.:(

I sure hope so. That's precisely why I ordered one. It's the only lefty Jazz with 70's spacing that Fender/Squier makes.:)
