I wouldn't bother waiting. Not every re-release is necessarily a good thing.

The Squier CVs are a good example of this. Imo the original pre-2019 series were better built than the current ones. Heck, even my older VMs are better than the current CVs. Not speculating, I have 2 VMs and a 2nd gen CV. The QC (not the electronics) on the VMs is a mile ahead of the CV. Probably now built in the same factory to boot.

The original CVs were a potential MIM killer. The 2nd gen, not so much. If you ask me, I'd speculate that Fender knocked the CVs down a notch with the 2nd gen so there would be less encroachment on MIM Fender sales. Mission accomplished!

Totally agree ! My current Vintera 50P just a little bit better than my previous CIC CV bass and my current NOS CIC CV70P. Beside the neck profile, nut width and fretboard radius ,the main different are heastock logo ~ Fender vs Squier.

I have a 2014 Chinese CV 70s P bass and I absolutely love the stock pickup, which I assume is the tonerider they supposedly came with. But my fiesta read was purchased used, and the pick up just didn't sound the same to me for some reason. Maybe it had been swapped out at some point. At any rate, I wouldn't want the exact pick up in two separate P basses anyway.

You know what they say about opinions, but here is mine… I used to have the Aguilar 60s P pickup and it completely neutered my bass. I would keep the Tonerider (or whatever the stock is) over the Aguilar pickup 9 days of the week. I love their jazz pickups though.

On of my favo P pup, been share on pickups forum about the AG-4P60 on my previous CIC CV60P, overall sound smoother with a bit laid back compare to my favorite 12K wound PV63P (on rosewood board).

Like I said, some people love them. I thought it was too tame or polite, clean, sterile, etc. And I do like vintage voiced pickups.

For vintage I might try the Nordstrand NP4V or NP4A instead. I have heard many sources talking about Aguilars being very tamed and polite sounding.

It would be great if Squier/Fender offered a version with no pickguard, since the guard is not serving a cavity covering purpose.

IMO the pickguard on the 50's looking P's along with the smaller headstock are what makes the look. Otherwise it looks like just another ordinary P bass. But that's just me I suppose.

I think they look good with a pickguard in black or brass.
I think the best looking no guard ones seem to be the road worn looking ones.

I have a CV Jaguar 32" p/j and was curious if anyone here that also has one has tried tapewounds on it? If so does it sound more thumpy than rounds?

I don't have one, but it will sound more thumpy with Tapewounds compared to Roundwounds.

Sorry to beat a dead horse once again, but if anyone has a spare CIC tuner laying around, my CIC 70s P took a spill and the d tuner got a bit wonky. Please let me know if anyone would be able to part with one, thanks!

Unfortunately I only have some Indo CV tuners lying around, and they aren't the same. But you could pickup a hipshot HB1 as a direct replacement. Not a bad "last resort". Good luck!

I didn't know those were drop-ins, thanks for the info. The stock tuners are really quite functional though, and I'd love to keep it original if I could.

Or they are drop-in Schaller too! They are amazing.

I get that. But after having top shelf tuners installed on a few instruments over the years, I'm sold on their worth. They aren't a "fun" mod, but they are definitely worth it.

Love it, man! And yes, I agree that a better looking tort guard is in order. One with a bit more red. Love the way that fretboard color blends with everything (except the guard)... lol. Pics once the new guard is on

This is the first dark brown tort that I've ever found myself absolutely hating! It's usually the pepperoni vomit or the "swirled mustard mayonnaise and ketchup blob" guards that make my skin crawl. But this one is hideous.

A good balance of red, brown, and a little bit of that subtle tan color that you find in nice tort. One thing that is very important to me, that most people don't seem to mention, is the three dimensional aspect. I don't want it to look like a picture or a drawing of a tortoise pickguard. I want it to have complexity and depth. I want it to look like a piece fresh off the back of Bowser himself after an epic Super Mario battle. OK, that may be a little bit much…
