Squier Classic Vibe Club (Part 3)

Just received a 2022 Classic Vibe '60s Precision. After a few minor setup adjustments, it plays fine but the sound pales in comparison to my '50s CV Precision. So I dug out the ohm meter and found that the dc resistance measures 6.3k which seems low. I couldn't find any specs on this. Anyone know if that is typical for this model? The CV '50s and other P style pickups I've measured all seem to be in 8.5-10k range. Thanks for any help on this.

Appreciate the info. I'm actually looking for an Olympic White specifically for a tribute act I'm in. Going back and forth between the Squire and the MIM with maple neck. Trying to convince myself the maple MIM is worth the extra $400 but so far not convinced. I have a Matt Freeman from that era that's excellent so I'm familiar with the quality of the earlier Chinese ones. Hopefully the new ones are as good.

Was the bass from Indonesia? I've noticed the sound quality of the Indonesian basses have low resistance levels. However, seems like a pickup issue than anything. A simple pickup upgrade would do the job if you like the way your bass feels.

Yeah that seems awfully low. I'd contact the store and ask about it.

No, the new ones are Chinese. At least the ones Sweetwater is advertising.

Mine's a 2013, black. Currently using it in my tribute band (Beach Boys). Wanting a white one to be more "period correct" (in all the early videos they're playing a white P) to go along with the blue/white stripped shirts. If yours were white but you'd maybe prefer a black one... ;):cool:

6.3k are quite weak for CV60P, stock mostly wound 10.6~11.5 range. Meanwhile 8.5-10k wound for CV50P sound boomy for me, but sound good with aggressive pick .The sweet spot for me (light finger style , play close to neck) is 7.1k - 7.4k.

You are right, only white CV60P made from China.

Since you mention that you own a MF sig P, you need play the CV60P by your hand because both has different neck profile.

Appreciate that @Yahboy. I also have a sunburst 2016 Indo VM PJ, the MF has a bigger (fatter?) feeling neck than the VM. If the newer Chinese ones are more like my VM (a bit thinner) I'd be good with that. I adjust to either pretty easily but if I'm being honest I'm a little more comfortable with the neck on the VM.

I know it's not what you're looking for, but a big part of me wants to suggest finding a Jaguar bass for almost anything involving Surf Rock.

Come to think of it, there was a Fender Standard Jaguar in Olympic White a handful of years ago…

I CAN NOT BELIEVE that this bass hasn't sold yet! This just goes to show how much people love to complain LOL. At least once a month this thread almost gets shut down over people complaining about how much better the Chinese classic vibes were… But then no one buys one even when it's one of the rarest examples! Definitely a fair used price in today's money.
