That '60s CV above has the CMHC serial number prefix and when I ran it through the serial number lookup it came back Sep 2022 so it's fresh of the boat.

Thanks for the correction, yes "Duncan Designed" for the VM's until mid 2013 as my late 2013 VM J sports "Fender designed".

I have read that Fender used ToneRider to manufacture pickups for the Matt Freeman Sig do you know for sure if they were also used for the 1st gen CV's as well?
It's a nice neck size/shape.
Mine came finished well with level frets and fret ends that are good.
it's also turning out to be seasonally stable.
I read (on the squier forums) that the grand reward facility is the one that manufactured tone rider pickups, not the other way around.
Yuck. Square fingerboard edge, dry looking wood (and even on the touch)... I just can't.
Current China Classic Vibe instruments are all made in Grand Reward. I saw some of the employees listing necks on eBak, necks that didn't go through their QC.
Yes, ToneRider is a US brand that does make their pickup being manufactured in China, and they equiped the 1st gen Classic Vibe for sure. Second gen, I can't tell but the pickups were still good. Just the electronics were bad, not made by Alpha like on 1st gen. I had to replace pots after a few weeks. Unacceptable.
I've come to the conclusion that eventually the electronics will require replacing even on the earlier CIC versions. I did it on a late 00s Jazz Bass and a CVC Tele. Also on a 2010 Matt Freeman and another 2015 CVC will need a switch replaced soon. So I just bit the bullet and replaced them on this last CV Jazz I bought because I was upgrading the pickups anyway.
Anyone with a classic vibe 70s Jazz, what upgrades have you done to it? I want to change my pickups soon, I'm curious what y'all went with. I also want to change the knobs since my came with P knobs it was the special series or something for it. Thanks for any help!

I'm not in the market for a bass, nor do I have the spare change to buy one, but boy, this is a great bass. I played it at Guitar Center on lunch today and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It's definitely on my radar for the next time I'm bass shopping.
New to the thread here! I have a CV70's Jazz I put together with a CV70's P bass neck, Omega bass bridge, Grover adjustable tuners, Hipshot 3 string retainer and a brushed gold ano pick guard. Ironically I probably wont change the pickups, electronics or knobs.... Sorry I'm not much help there..
Does this club give out numbers?
Hey no worries! I'm thinking of changing the pickguard for my anyway though to something tort probably. My knobs are messed up probably from the last user they love to fall out, so hence why I want to change, plus they are p-bass knobs not into those myself personally.
Gotcha - the P bass knobs are metal / knurled / dome, correct? I agree, nice on many basses, maybe not on a Jazz.
Trust me I will take any excuse to mess around with a perfectly good bass, but I cant find any reason to replace the PU's or electronics. The tuners + bridge feel like costume jewelry to me though.
Incredible price on the finest noise free JBass pickups you'll find anywhere. There are pickups designed by pickup legend Bill Lawrence who also designed the Gibson Ripper bass pickups and the Fender Roscoe Beck model and Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups. I've been playing them in two separate CV basses for over 10 years. Normally they sell for $158 a set which when compared to others is a huge bargain but for $110 during their holiday special they're a steal. Still hand wound and produced by Bill's wife Becky and daughter Shannon.

Can anyone confirm whether or not the current CV 60s Precision (the one made in China) has "rolled" fingerboard edges? Or is the edge squared off? Been thinking about picking up an Olympic White CV P, and was curious about this. Surprisingly, my 2021 Affinity PJ and Jazz basses all have a bit of a rolled edge, and it makes a world of difference for me comfort-wise.
