Squier Classic Vibe Club (Part 3)

Squier CV50 (Indo): I’m happy with the playability and tone, but the humming is really annoying, specially when practicing alone. I know it is expected as the pup is single coil.
I have shielded it but that does not help.

As a way of resolving it, I’m using a wireless transmitter. It makes it silent, at the expense of some latency and tone suck.

I’m considering a noiseless pup like the Fralin or Seymour - but I am afraid I will loose on the tone.
Any experiences or recommendations related to exchanging the pup or reducing the noise some other way? Tks!

Folks, I've never owned a Squier before but am very aware of them of course. Yesterday, I grabbed a black 70's Classic Vibe p-bass with the maple neck and black blocks. Seems to have a higher mass bridge than I would expect on a Squier. Brass saddles too. Not sure if that bridge is stock or not. I really dig this bass, it's very resonant unplugged, light, with fantastic playability. Seems to have a thinner nut width too compared to my MIM p-bass.

The serial #starts with a CGS, the year made is 2014 and it was made in China. I picked this up for $100 Canadian which is like $73 in US dollars. Stupid cheap.

What's the consensus on these basses?

Well congratulations you scored a great bass and an even better deal! The CIC (CGS) CV 70’s with the stock high-mass bridge and brass saddles don’t come up very often but when they do they sell for roughly 6 times what you paid. Enjoy it!

didn’t have a bridge cover, but had the holes drilled just like that one too. My limited research tells me the regular fender bridge cover doesn’t fit. I need to keep an eye out for what ever version this bass uses because I’d like to get one.

I have Squiers from Korea, China, and Indonesia, and so far in my experience they're built to the spec Fender supplied, and haven't had any problems with any of them. They're built (as they always have been) at a price and spec to separate themselves price-wise from genuine Fender-branded pieces.

From that standpoint, mine all punch well above their weight, and seem to have no more or less complaints than the 'real thing' from what I see in TB.

I think you’re correct about the Fender bridge covers not fitting but you might be able to buy a couple of generics ones offered online, they are not all the same and some do have measurements, you just might be able to find one that fits.

I think you’re correct about the Fender bridge covers not fitting but you might be able to buy a couple of generics ones offered online, they are not all the same and some do have measurements, you just might be able to find one that fits.

Both early and second batch before discontinued CIC CV 70P has bridge cover stock.

The early version has fully brass saddle and bridge which has 20mm string spacing. The stock bridge are oversized and has thicker housing , it is special build for the bridge.

The second batch has simple fender type of bend bridge and standard fender size bridge cover . Lighter and smaller than the one on early batch.

Right I get that but was wondering
(if you know) are the Fender bridge covers to narrow for the bridge plate
(as in not wide enough) or are they
not tall enough to clear the strings?

I have a bridge cover that came with my MIM P bass and I tried it with the Squier. It’s not wide enough but does appear tall enough.

Thanks, I just tried one too. I got the same, tall enough but not wide enough by a smidge, bummer, maybe bend it?

No worry...... don't bend it.... check this , i recall this one has same dimension to CIC bass bridge.

Both tuning machine has same shape to Yamaha BB234/434/734 bass guitar. But 234/434 are chrome instead Nickel coat. The black one are same thing on 734.

You got a bass with probably a quarter-sawn and a high quality fit and finish for under 100$... you "lucky dog" !!! Never sell it, you'll probably regret it.

I just received an order yesterday from 7th Songs with a P90 guitar pickup and original Classic Vibe bass tuners. These tuners are simply the best you can find for that price. Better than MIM tuners and current CV/Affinity tuners that are awful.

If the neck is straight and the truss rod is working fine, you just got a very good bass for the money. If on top of that it sounds great, just play it and have fun !

Worst case, you can install a better pickup such as a Fender Pure Vintage 63 and it will shake the walls !

How the heck are you supposed to know this stuff? I have one on the way, cv 70s p, googled to prep, went to fenders page on it, checked specs, can't find where it's listed. Am i dumb/blind or is it just not listed anywhere?
