That looks lovely. I agree about the Tort, although i do like it on some basses.
I too have a black PG and think it works really well with the white body.
I had thought about de fretting mine, but i love the neck too much to tamper with it. One day ill buy a cheap fretless neck for it.

Here's my CV Jazz, defretted and with a black pickguard (sorry guys, but I hate tort). I also went with Chromes on it. Everything else is stock.

For the PG, I bought a cheap one off Ebay, which fit really well. Some of the holes were a few mm off, but I could still fit the screws in.

Where did you get that Jamaica strap??

Hello this is Fire (ice box's wife) he has had his surgery this morning. He is doing very well. The Dr said he had a couple bone spers thet he took care of and then inserted the two wedges to be fuzed with his own bone. This way it will fuze together but still keep the ability to move his neck. Ice has been in his room since 12:30. To be expected the anesthesia took a few hous to wear off. (Sorry no big stories of not knowing me or running naked through the halls) Ice has had a liquid dinner and is feeling more like himself. The nurses will be encouraging him to get out of bed soon but with caution. I expect to be taking him home sometime tomorrow. Till then I thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. I'll let him back on when he is ready.

My CV 60P got a American fender P Black pickguard last week. All hole fit without modified.

This was the day I put the mint green Fender PG on. Smokin' color combo if I do say so.

Is anyone using La Bella 760N (.115 gauge E) Deep Talkin' Bass tape wound strings on their Classic Vibe 60's Jazz? If so, please let me know how they fit, feel, and sound on this bass.

I believe mine has the factory strings on it still (.100 gauge E), and they feel light to me. I was also considering using GHS precision medium flats, but am looking for alternatives.

Hey can I join some more? Just grabbed this one on my way home from work tonight. $200 including the case. Not a scratch on the bass or the case. I mean it's flawless. Looks to me like the guy bought it, brought it home and it sat until the wife made him sell it. I mean there weren't even finger prints on it. This was a most excellent purchase.

Ten minutes tweaking the truss rod and bridge to see where I can get the action, plugged 'er in and oh man, the Freeman may need to stay in its case at this Saturday's gig.

That is a beauty. I know because I've got one just like it and I love it. It's become my favorite bass even though it cost me 1/5 of what a couple of my more expensive ones cost. It really gives up almost nothing to the high-priced spread.

The only complaint I have is that the E string doesn't seem to have the same power the A string has. Like there's some kinda natural compression happening on the E that isn't as apparent on the A. Did some digging here last night and seems that complaint might be common among these single-coil P pickups. The theory I saw that seemed to make sense is that the magnetic field above the pole pieces is really too narrow for the distance that the E string travels in it's vibration, so it's actually leaving the magnetic field during the attack of the note - until it settles down some and stays in the field and sounds normal again. Suggestions were pickups with bigger fatter pole pieces, but I bet stiffer strings would do it too. Maybe I should throw some Jamerson's on here....

So I'm gonna do a little more poking around on that front. But I'm gonna leave the stock pickup in place for the time being and give it chance in a band context first. There's every possibility that what I'm complaining about in the paragraph above is actually the proper character of the bass and I should just leave it alone.

...but it's so fun to do online pickup-shopping while I'm at work ignoring what I should actually be working on.

I did notice my E was "weaker", but I've always used hot pickups. I swapped it for a Seymour 1/4lb and I got a looooot more lows and the Mids/Highs remained pretty much the same as far as I could discern It still manages to cut through, though!
Invalid Link Removed I recorded with the stock pickup in it. And this one was recorded with the Quarter Pounder, it's more of a demo, but I think you can tell the difference

I also put a Duncan QP in my butterscotch 50's CV P.

Needed a little more output in my band setting and better low end and, for me, the mids really came alive with the QP.

I also replaced the stock strings with Ernie Ball Cobalts, 45-105.

Yes, I use rounds, tone always wide open, love thick chunky necks and use my SCPB to play metal. ...I should probably be kicked off of TB.
