Squier Classic Vibe Club (Part 3)

I just got a CV 70's Precision. So far it seems pretty good, I like the sound and the nice thing is that it's not too heavy, just over 8 lbs. My CV 60 Jazz is over 9 lbs and with my bad shoulder it gets heavy quickly. Thankfully, we only have a 5 song set at church. The only thing that I plan to do is to put flats and strap locks on like the Jazz.

And here it is with my Jazz.

Regarding the vary of CV bass weight, i found that CV 60p, 60J and 50P all i have try at GC is around 8.5 ~ 10 lbs.
My current red 60P and white 50P each weight 8.10lbs and close to 9 lbs, the previous 60J is nail 10.6lbs.
But i have try 2 peice of showroom unit CV70p both weight around 8 pound with zero neck dive problem !

When hanging on, the pickup hum is close to silent most time without touch the string or bridge, the strong lo freq hum only notify while the bass is laying on floor or stand too close/ my hand touch to hi-fi combo / DVD player in my practice room.

Nice color! I love the LPB CV50s. I put a Duncan in mine and used a MIM Cabronita neck, tuners and bridge...one of my faves.

Been a couple weeks now with my CV 60s P back. It had been out of rotation due to a wiring issue. New jack and pots and setup. Coupled with the Fender original pickups and LaBellas that I added awhile back and this thing really sings.

I really love this bass.

I had been thinking that I needed or wanted an MIA Precision, but really don't think that it will be an upgrade.

I think that I am going to stop "GASing" over all these basses and just commit myself to getting better at playing the basses that I have which are pretty great.

My current CV60's P is the 5th one that I've owned. I think I've learned my lesson . This one is staying . I like it better than the CIJ 7os Precision that I let my 1st Fiesta Red one go for. My current one isn't the lightest of the bunch, but it isn't he heaviest either. But it does play and sound the best .
I think I'm good with just this CV60's P and my Sire V7 Vintage.

My dream bass was Fender Roadworn P actually, love the weight , the look and clear P vibe.
One day, I bring my CV p to GC because SA make me a good offer with Eden stuff. So, beside test the amp, I got change to test the display piece RW P Vs my CV P.
The RWP neck profile make me lost the GAS immediately. No problem with it, just my small hand feel much comfortable with my CV p neck.
My new CV50p neck is thicker than CV60p neck, but still in my comfortable range.
Somemore I heard some PPL complaints the basswood P body lack of clear E string voice. Sorry, my CV P dint have that issues.
If my local GC bring in the Mattfreeman p again and my wife allow me to married the third lady, I will bring she home.

About a year and a half ago I recall GC was offering the Matt freeman at $179!!!!

I stumbled across it online and decided against it for some reason. Stupid in retrospect. I would love to have that bass and string it with rounds to complement my 60s P with flats. Plus I love the black with maple look.

I had the same thought with the aged white Matt Freeman. Was considering it heavily at one time.

Being in the process of temporarily downsizing living space and frequent relocation (military) has my current limit to 2 basses. If and when I'm able to add a 3rd bass, it will be a maple fretboard Precision with rounds or chromes.

I try tweak the tone pot with stock .068uf cap to get that sound, but when i get the D and G sound close to what i want, the E and A sound become fuller and little bassy . Meanwhile when i get the sound on E and A , the D and G lost some round-meaty tone.
Got few different value cap from .011 ~ .1uf in my drawer and give then a try . Surprisingly work with .022uf cap with tone pot set around 70% ! Happy with the result. Now my CV50P is fully full fill with the tone i wish , and i bought a Levy MS26 in Tan colour yesterday , this colour is great match and nice looking with Blonde Cv50P.
My next upgrade parts could be American Vintage Tuning Machines.

What if you do what you did to get D & G sounding good and then just lower your pickup(s) on the E side a touch?

Here is my short review of Ti JF344 flatwound string on my CV60P.

I put this JF344 on my Squier Cv60P yesterday.
This JF344 have similiar tension and stiffness like LTF4A , the .070 A string is NOT flabby at all. I can get the action low to 2mm on E string and 1.5mm on G string at 17th fret without single fret buzz.

Tone is something like Sadowsky Black label flat 40-100 , but the D and G sound is close to aged roundwound string with NO Fresh Zing and louder than others flatwound D/G string i use before.

After adjust the pickup height, overall tone output is well balance from string to string.

This JF344 is lack of some classic thump even roll off the tone than LTF4A, she present nice warm and thick MID range with better sustain.

Honestly, if i willing to spend the money for JF344 in the earlier , i can save the money from Sadow black label 40-100, Chrome ECB81 , Fender 9050L and 9050CL.(all modern vibe Flatwound string).

For you Split coil P bass guy who wanna move to flatwound but love the aged roundwound sound from 40/45-100 gauge ; resist with the natural high tension/stiffness of most flatwound string and No such time to wait for broke-in periold , i highly recommand Ti JF344.

American Vintage Bass Tuning Machines upgrade

Solve the E string's Dead A note and ........ No improvement with the bass tone. Only made the headstock look sexy from rear view, thats all.
This tuner set is around 100 grams more than stock set, no neck dive problem after install.
Modified required to let each tuner sit flat.

Actually I was hunting the fiesta red one and found this one instead.
These CVs are fantastic!! I've sold my American Standard Fender and kept the CV Jazz, better player IMHO.

These CVs are fantastic!! I've sold my American Standard Fender and kept the CV Jazz, better player IMHO.
