hey lowdownthumb, I can only agree with you ... I customized both basses. As far as any hardware and pu replaced by Fender vintage parts. Both basses sound incredible. The jazz bass got stack pots. But I separated from the JB, a student was so in love with the good piece ... I'm a P-bass player ... This customized pino bass is a real stunner ...

I had one too a few years ago and I forget what I sold or traded it for but no matter what it was, it wasn't worth it. That bass was sweet.
I sold the CV60P finally with fairly low price since she has broken truss rod problem.
Will looking for used MF pbass first.

Well I fell into a CIC CV60's Jazz Bass, did a few mods and I am so surprised what this piece of kit can do. Sounds great, and what sold me into doing the mods was the great feeling neck. Now I can leave my '83 jazz at home and not worry about it getting hijacked at the bar.

As Jazzes go, by and large they're damn good and as mod-platforms, they're super solid.
Bob help me if I should stumble across a James Johnston Jazz when I have just enough money in my pocket to make it mine!
Did you record the original pickups to compare them to the V-mod ? Personally I would never replace them. They sound awesome as is!
So for me the jazz gold standard is my '83 jazz bass. People have commented multiple times for the last 30 or so years why I play anything else because that is how it should sound. The CV pickups were good but didn't have the same presence that the '83 had. I had an American jazz pro for a while and it sounded great but was fretless and we just did t get along. So when I could upgrade the CV to a better IMO electronics setup I did. I can only say that it now has more presence when playing, like going from 2D to 3D. Is it life changing no, and I could have enjoyed it stock. But why not make it a tiny bit better if you can. There is a lot to like about the neck on this bass and since the overall cost is not excessive I feel the mod was worth it.
Was your 83 a 62 reissue or a glossy maple neck with the "70s pickup spacing"? 60s pickup were designed to be warm sounding, while the 70s era had more "airy/opened" tone to them.
It's an American standard rosewood board 70's spacing. So a little more bite then 60's jazz spacing.
Gorgeous. Yeah, that's why you prefer that tone. It's voiced differently. The CV original pickups does their job well at have the warmth of the early 60s era
