Back to back comparison:

Squier CV 60's P-Bass stock pickups vs Lindy Fralin stock pickups.

(bassline: Disco Ulysses, Vulfpeck)

In a mix with the bass at full volume & the backing track volume at 80%:


No effects nor compression used.

My conclusion: the Squier stock pickups are very good!

P.S: I recorded this exclusively for the sake of comparing the pickups. So please excuse my sloppy playing. I did this as quick as I could this morning. My playing gets sloppier as I start demoing the Fralin, which is quite unfortunate...

Actually She has better clarity on E string include my previous one, but she has no such Fralin signature " Punchy low mid/mid voice along with not too edgy P vibe ！！" at all. The G string also lacking the fullness vioce.

Suggest you touch with Fralin , or just return it if you are satisfied with stock.

From your playing style, I also recommend a try on Benson Handwound P bass pickups if you looking for aggressive vintage P vibe other than GZR/SPB4/SPB3/Model P.

I'm actually very disappointed with the Fralin pickups.
I was really expecting a some significant and noticeable improvement from such hyped and pricey so-called "boutique" pickups.

To be honest I wasn't dissatisfied with the stock pickups, on the contrary.
I was just so excited that I could buy such a good sounding instrument at such a low price that I thought I could to afford myself some extra investment to make that instrument even better.

I guess I leaned my lesson... "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

I already put the stock pickups back in the bass and the just sound great.

It’s almost scary how well built and how great these basses play and sound.
I have 2 other basses that I feel the same way about. Those are what determine what stays and what goes for me. That’s exactly what I look for out of my basses. Ones that are too good to be true . They have to look, feel, play, and sound well beyond what I would imagine.

Something also has to be said about those TI flats: they are so good!
It's my first P-Bass ever and also my first time playing with flats. I couldn't be happier.

Thomastik might have a special tone, but they are truly unbalanced to my finger with the A string and its stupid 0.070" gauge! It's too jumpy for long notes if you attack a little...

Ti flat are nice.
Some player complaint she is floopy, especially the A string, but I am not the one.
In past, I always stop my index finger on lower string after pluck the upper string, for example pluck the D string and finger just stop and hit the A string. This kind of plucking skill also cause me sometimes loose control/uneven plucking sound while both index and middle finger run/pluck rapidly on E string.
Once I play Ti flat and got some valuable share by longterm Ti flat player, the floating hand plucking skill along with light laying thumb mute on E and A string rescue me from previous damn plucking skill.

On my previous CV60P, I set .010 neck relief and I able play the Ti flat with 2.0mm E - 1.5mm G action without single fret buzz.

This also showing up how great the china CV60P fretwork from factory.

The Matt Freeman's are really nice. Has a white one. The neck is living on a Cabronita body I traded to our guitar player to dink around on. He loves it too. I know a guy with a black one and a couple of the 2 pickup Modern Player Telecaster basses he wants to off load but he's not really putting them out there. If I weren't in the middle of a project I'd be bugging him.

I DID start playing one of the Modern Player Telecaster basses again...they certain do have a thunder!!! Also, The Frankencision bass is one of the finest basses I have ever played.

Picked up a CV 60's bass (with the tort pick guard of course) about a year ago. This is only the 2nd bass I've ever owned and the first one I had was an Ibanez 5 string (SR405). I wanted something that was a bit of a change up and more traditional, and what's more classic than a classic P right? I didn't want to go for the Fender model right off the bat because I wasn't sure how I was going to like it.

I have fallen in love with this thing. Its plays awesome, looks amazing, and sounds fantastic. I am also getting another bass soon and I was originally thinking about selling this Squier P, but not anymore. I will hold on to this baby. I've switched out the string a bunch of times but have tried it with the Fender strings it came with, some Ernie Ball super slinkys, and La Bella flats. I've got the La Bella flats on it now.

It was a big change coming from playing a 5 string Ibanez but I totally get all the love for the P bass now...

I just got in a CV 70s in Walnut. A few thoughts so far...

• Sounds great, even with factory strings.
• Build quality is really good, though I haven't looked under the pickguard yet....
• The finish is much darker than I expected.
• Mine is on the heavy side, at least for me -- 9 pounds.

I assume the only way to reduce the weight is by swapping the tuners, correct?

If so, I assume I can use the Gotoh GB640 if I don't want to drill any new holes, or the Hipshot UL (11/16") if I drill one new hole.

How large is the control cavity on the Indo 50s CV Bass? Looking at upgrading the control assembly and wanted to know if full size pots will fit or if I need mini-CTS pots. Thanks

The china CV 50p has a little bit more cavity room compare to indo CV50P (it is also has no sheilding paints), but no problem for standard size CTS pot.
The only thing i dint check are the pot hole size on indo CV50P control plate. The china CV50P control plate 100% fit nicely with standard CTS pot than stock alpha pot which has smaller nut thread size.

Yeah, the control plate holes will need to be drilled larger to accept the USA pot diameter but at least I know full size pots will fit, thanks. Not that there would be anything wrong with high quality American mini pots.
