I picked up my CV60’s P a while ago and the very first thing I did was put on a set of GHS Precision Flats (45-95).
It met my jonesing for the P bass with flats thing.

I love the color of the neck!!! Mine has the regular clear not the “vintage” clear like yours.
The bass is here. I’ve had it a few days.
Color me impressed. It actually has the best “archetype” style P-bass tone of anything I’ve owned. It’s a little rough around the edges, meaning I could’ve probably gotten better overall quality in a Yamaha (at least at this price point). The frets are a little rough but I inly notice when I slide into the upper register, and I can adjust to compensate.
It’s kinda pretty, too. Close up it really looks like a $300-400 instrument, but from ten feet away it looks like a $600 instrument, which is a win.
I am pleased.

Got a call from GC that they has a Paranormal 54J weight 9.0lbs , since i been try 54J few months ago before i bought the CV50P, china made 54J has better QC like previous china made CV bass.
What i dont like with the 54J are weight and control knob placement, but the tone are truly sweet.
Sadly, 54J has notable neck dive issue than my CV50P . I want a nice sounding budget Jbass but dont want the neck dive and heavy weight thing.....
Why not i pay little more for Cort GB74JJ ? This underate GB74JJ has better QC and friendly price tag compare to China made Sadowsky Express J i been side by side compare before.
The GB74JJ has satin neck but i more prefer to Squier gloss neck myself. Both bass in jazz bass look, but 54J neck has correct J neck compare to Pbass-like neck on Gb74JJ.
The control knobs placement are better to me on 74JJ and she has Active/Passive mode , plus both mode has same output level, thats is a great thing for me too.
The Hipshot tuner on 74jj work smoother than 54J. Both has great fret job from factory , but 54J has rounder fret end.
The main point i choose 74JJ are weight, bass body balance and pickups voice.
74JJ has Blue and Amber body colour option, funny thing is i never liking with Amber body , but the 74JJ are exception.
Weight 8.6lbs, no neck dive. She has nice Jazz bass tone but little brighter than 54J. No single 60 hum with solo pickup run , actually it is split coil jazz pup but sound like J .

Hi there,
I can’t speak for the 63, sorry - but I have tried the original Fender and the Geezer Butler and kept the latter, for maybe more punch (it is also easier to install).
However, I am finding out that my eden glowplug and/or my q\strip pedals make the bass more live than anything, so looking back I think that I should have kept the original pup and invested in these pedals, only.

I've changed my mind and ordered some stock Fralin P-Bass pickups!
After reading a lot of comments and listening to some audio clips featuring the Fender Pure Vintage 63 (mainly on Fender American Original 60's demo videos) I came to the conclusion that they sound too "muddy", bass-heavy and undefined to my ears. The primary reason I bought a P-Bass was to have a simple (passive) instrument that effortlessly cut into the mix.
I feel the Fralin P-Bass pickups are more appropriate for that purpose.
Any thoughts on the Fralin?

I put Fender PV 63 Precision pickups in my Squier Affinity body + Classic Vibe 60s (1st Gen) rosewood neck... they sound fantastic to me. They are indeed focused on the bass and the singing mids but aren't ultra defined in the treble. I have the Player pickups from Mexico models, they have a tiny bit less bass and better extension in treble. I love both. Can't speak for Fralin!

In a mix with the bass at full volume & the backing track volume at 80%:
No effects nor compression used.
My conclusion: the Squier stock pickups are very good!
P.S: I recorded this exclusively for the sake of comparing the pickups. So please excuse my sloppy playing. I did this as quick as I could this morning. My playing gets sloppier as I start demoing the Fralin, which is quite unfortunate...

Don't worry for the sloppy playing, I think you're good, and your way of attacking/plucking the strings is interesting. Nice demo and thank for the comparison.
A friend of mine with a Squier Precision Bass Matt Freeman (surely the same pickup, and aside the maple fingerboard, same bass), switched it out with a Fender Pure Vintage 63 pickup... to find out they sounded exactly the same. Like for real. He sent back the PV63 pickup and kept the Squier.
So...
1. Send back these Lindy Fralin, they are overrated IMHO.
2. If you ever regret removing the delicious golden leaf Squier logo... I did them on Photoshop and you could get them printed with real golden ink. Too bad you did that. IMHO too! These bass are killer and you should BE PROUD THAT THEY DISPLAY A SQUIER LOGO!!!! All the new Squier Classic Vibe are crap... or a pretty big disappointment, at least.
I much prefer the stock pickups. These basses are just sooo good. That’s why I’ve always kept my one stock. Just didn’t see the need to switch them out. That bass sounded wonderful in the mix.
Yes send those Fralins back if you prefer the stock . I would .
