I did not have any problems. I installed Fender Original 60's PU's in one of my CV's for the hell of it
I never felt the need to swap 60's CIC or even Indo's but that didn't stop me, lol, try it before you buy.

yeah, have some flats coming for it, will switch the strigns and then test before I order anything else!
Yeah I'd give it a minute with that bass before dropping a new pickup in. Those CIC basses tended to sound pretty amazing right off the rack. It may not need the mod!

Don’t touch the pickups from that era. They are the golden pickups that no other P bass today (not even an American made P bass) can replicate.

I was recommended TI Flats after my underwhelming response of using La Bella’s on my Fiesta Red. YMMV
never much liked TI flats. I usually use cobalt flats but want a more traditional flat for this p. Well see how it goes

I was lusting after one of these for a long time, and saw one on reverb the guy was local. offered him 400 and done deal. def didnt need another bass but what can ya do with a deal that good?!
YMMV indeed! TI Flats had to be the worst strings I'd ever had the misfortune of putting on one of my basses. I absolutely hated both the tension and the tone. That said, they're one of the mostly highly rated strings on this whole forum, so it goes to show just how subjective most of this stuff really is.
what kind of pots were std on these? split shafts or the american. i wanna get some knobs but dont know the size

Often, pickups on Squiers are better than you'd think. I always recommend replacing the cheap pots and wiring they use to hold the price down with real wiring and CTS or other good pots and caps, THEN see if you think you need new pickups.
No matter what brand, one way they keep the price down is to use really CHEEP electronic parts 'under the hood', but fortunately, the good replacement stuff is not much money at all.

Its one of the main reasons CVs have always been so desirable. No need to replace them.
only thing i dont love is how smooth the back of the neck is, but I dont dislike it enough to change it or sand it
Good luck on string choice, I have one strung up with ghs precision flats and another wearing Fender flats, (both great) but Fender flats for the win, enjoy that CIC P bass they are fantastic instruments!

This is pure truth they speak. The pickup coupled with TI Flats is the magic secret sauce of these basses, not to mention the great build quality, slab rosewood fingerboard, and perfect neck . you won't find a better Pbass for less than $1000. These basses are almost too good to be true. Ive owned about 7 of these and always regret it and hunt down another. I learned my lesson . They do sound just as good with rounds if that's is your thing. But I would be hesitant to put real high tension flats on it.
You stole that bass at $400. Enjoy it. Ive had no need to change anything from stock except the strings. But mine isn't my daily player either. The pickup is wonderful. I even keep on the cheesy tort pick guard because its part of the charm of these original CV basses. I only wish that I had the Classic Vibe decal on my Pickguard. Love those decals. Might have to try and get one made.
