I guess you can throw me into the club..I have the 50's and 60's P pretty modded out. If ya want some pics I can throw them up

Of course we want pics, I just dont think we want regurgitated pics- "throw them up" get it?
regurgitated?? thrown up???

ahh forget it, I'm a bassist, not a comedian.........

Seriously though, these basses are great values. I want a CV Jazz at some point.

At least you admit it.;)

I'm a bassist
Not sure I can even say that as I only do it for fun, I actually drink beer for a living so not sure what that makes me.

Well I guess I need to take some new pics but here are a couple for now.

^ such sweet basses :)

My band has been becoming pretty widespread locally and after i have alot of live photos from playing tons of shows this summer i am going to send them to squier and see if there is anyway i can get a endorsement deal , a friends band has a squier endorsement he got a free PJ standard and a VM p bass and his guitarist got 2 free teles, i dont even want them free just at cost.

I've now owned all three in the series & the one I liked best of all was the 54 P. It was absolutely stunning. I actually traded it against something else. May have to get another one soon. Also, every one of the CV Jazz basses I've played (including the one I owned) has come seriously close to my 09 Am.Std Jazz. They're that good - But I'm preaching to the converted here, aren't I?

the only thing that keeps turning me off about the 60's p bass is that it's basswood, i played one in a store and loved the feel of the neck and everything. there are no other p basses i could try locally. so can anyone tell me if an SX will feel similar. the squire's cost about 750 USD here, and i am not paying that much for basswood body.

What exactly is your problem with basswood? Much higher end basses such as the EBMM Bongo are made of basswood.

Basswood is a very nice tone wood. I think it just gets a bad rap due to the fact that it's a little soft. But it sounds great. The SX basses sound dull compared to the Squier. The wood doesn't resonate at all.

And OutToPlayJazz, you're #11.

I'm in on this one as well! I will post a pic of my CV Jazz as soon as I can. I also think I have to change the nut on mine as the bass came with a B string in the e slot and the nut was either filed to fit the larger string or has worn in. that or I have a dead E string as I get a duller sound as compared to the other 3 strings and instead of ringing out clear and articluate like the others it kind of goes "thwip" as you strike it.

These are new GHS brite flats and the E could just be dead. I figure a Tusq nut is cheap enough and an upgrade in itself, so I'll try that first.

I've had my Classic Vibe 60s Jazz for about a month and am really impressed with it. The only thing I am uncertain about is the tuner quality/stability. I am giving it some time, but will probably upgrade the tuners to Schaller BMLs at some point.

Someone really needs to make an american standard vs CV blind test. We'll see if all those basswood haters can spot this horrible, awful wood :D

I have a CV Jazz and I'm very happy with it. No problems at all, apart from some small finish blemishes. The stock hardware works well and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the electronics. The pots turn smoothly and without cracks, and the tone knob it very usable.

A pleasure to play and to look at :)

It won't matter. Every single blind test so far, and every guy who plays an MIA Bass and an MIM or Squier VM or CV or even SX and likes it better than the Holy of Holies, the Fender American Standard, always shot down by the fanatics that insist that these basses cannot be better than an MIA. Even that the American wood is better than the Chinese wood and on and on....

I have no ill will towards anyone for owning any bass, I run with the "Likes what you plays and plays what you likes" Philosophy...

Even when I go out and finally buy my Rickenbacker there will be those who say "their" bass of choice is better and the Ricky sucks because of "this"....

To each their own. And do not try to add into the discussion that many other prominent companies use bass wood, or agathis as everyone knows that it is handed down by God Himself that 2 or 3 pieces of American Alder is better than any wood.

All I know is that I picked the Squier over all of the other basses in the store. I had the money to get an American Standard or a Deluxe if I'd wanted one, but they didn't win the feel or tone test. They were high on the list I won't deny, but they weren't at the top. I'm not going to buy a bass just because it says made in America on it if I don't like how it feels and sounds.

ProfGumby :

Yes it won't matter because people will not change their minds and will find excuses for not being able to spot which is which, but it's still quite funny to see the results of such tests.

Here's my CV Jazz :
