If you able try it at GC, you will notice the colour of the fretboard nothing like the one shown on Fender wedsite which more yellowish.
It is dull-grey like dead woody near the beach.

It’s actually much classier in person. I have the fretted version and it’s my most aesthetically pleasing bass. For what it costs, it’s only real flaw is that it isn’t a P bass

Why can't Fender make a fretless with the side dots in the right place and NO FRET LINES?.. If I ever lose or wear out my fretless Precision, I'm gonna have to buy an Allparts neck and a scam decal

....and that's kinda tame for clownburst. A real sixties clownburst is a thing of beauty

I have acquired a great respect for Squier. Outrageous quality for the price.

Is clownburst good or bad. I've never heard the term until now. A quick search brought me to a plethora of Les Paul forums. I guess it's more common there.

It’s generally not a compliment, though perhaps one could take a perverse pride in it (as in, "I dunno, I kinda like my clowburst! ")

"Mustard on Ketchup" was another, more descriptive term used for some [especially 70s] Les Pauls that fall into what some might call the "clownburst" (as opposed to ‘sunburst’) category. To keep it low, here’s a bass version, on a Gibson RD Artist (no offense to anyone, their bass or their taste, btw - numerous people surely like their instruments with just such a finish. I’m just reporting here, not judging!):

There's one in a pawn shop near me for $138. Seriously considered buying it on the weekend but it had round wounds and some fairly light string marks grooved in it already....although the rest of the bass looked almost new.

If I knew I could fix it.....maybe a light coat of some filler and then super glue the neck??? Or just super glue?
Then I'd probably snatch it up.

This is a new model - what you saw was likely the Squier Vintage Modified fretless Jazz. I owned one back in 2007, it was a lot of fun. Ebonol fretboard.

I agree - my fretless has a Mighty Mite neck on it, with the ebonol fretboard (but no lines) - it looks to me like the best part of the previous Squier fretless bass version (the fingerboard) has gone away with this version - to me, that's a loss. Obviously, YMMV.

Until I bought a Squier , I turned my nose up at them.

After my Squier became my go to
( still don’t feel worthy of my Zon)
I saw a Squier fretless at GC and tried it
without hesitation.

Although the store model had awfully high action; with stock flats and that ebonol board, it played like my hands were oil soaked.

Had I needed another bass THAT would be my choice.

And when they make a Low B 5er version I’ll find a way to make a purchase.

But don’t like the drop D attachment on that model bass; would rather have a fretless P J 4 or 5 than have a drop D extension key but that’s just my opinion.

The Tony Franklin Precision has no fretlines, but it is $1,699 street.

I like the idea of detuners, but I lose my place with them very easily. Fives or simply tuning down a whole step are easier for me (I can still lose my place on a detuned bass also.)
