Squier Classic Vibe Series,on website

Alrighty, I got the Classic Vibe 60s Precision today, strung it with Fender flats and I have to say, I am impressed!!!! Fit and finish are VERY good the amber neck is really well done and typically fender gloss sticky, but I expected that. Fretwork is also great for a "cheap" bass! Set-up was pretty good, I'll play more with it later. It came with a quality control card with set-up measurements. It came with the chrome bridge cover, and I think I'm gonna get the pick-up cover to complete the look.

Most importantly it sounds like a P-bass should!!!! I am, initially, quite happy!

They come with bridge cover and thumbrest. I really want to try one of the 50's SCPB-style but my local GC doesn't have them in stock yet. The guy I spoke with hadn't even heard of them. Didn't really expect much more since we're talking about basses, though. :(

Can I ask about the neck? Is it nice and chunky? I'm not so concerned about nut width, but the back-to-front thickness of the neck. Thanks.

I tried two of the 50s models (with the Tele style headstock) on the weekend. I can't remember the model numbers so forgive me for that. The one with the big humbucker was in a sunburst finish. Looked quite good. The hardware looked adequate if not spectacular. I don't think it will give any problems. The electronics were fine-no noise or scratchy controls. The neck is a bit chunky if you are used to current Fender P basses. Fretwork was quite okay. Fret ends were just a hair on the sharp side and if I got one I'd lightly dress down and round over the ends. But they were by no means really bad. The factory setup was fine and quite playable. The sunburst finish was quite dramatic looking in person-brighter than the USA models usually are- and done nicely.

Through an amp (I plugged it into the nearest available combo that had a cord handy and was working and happened to be a fairly large Fender 2x10) it had a very impressive sound. I had heard before that that humbucker is supposed to be muddy. This wasn't at all true. It had plenty of bass to be sure, but also plenty of mids and treble. I wouldn't be in any great hurry to swap it out for something else. Really not bad at all and just under $300 Canadian. Really a steal of a price.

The other bass I tried I unfortunately couldn't play through the amp as I lost control of it to some young wanker for a while, but it was the SCPB type in a nice grayish blue finish. Same chunky neck and quite decent hardware. I couldn't find anything drastically wrong with it and it looked very good and played fine. I would have loved to have heard that single coil pickup through an amp, but if I got one I'd probably swap it out for one of the aftermarket Duncans anyhow. Again the price was just under $300--$299 Canadian I believe and about $20 more than the humbucker equipped model.

Muddslide-yes the neck is thicker from fingerboard to back of the neck. Noticeably so. No problem for my hands but may be uncomfortable for some used to slimmer necks.

I seriously considered buying this bass and might have if my wife hadn't hauled me off to the keyboard section where we eventually bought her a Yamaha electronic piano. She's pulling a Linda McCartney on me and is determined to learn the instrument. Good for her I say and since we got it home Saturday she's been practicing like a fiend and making progress. I got her a simple piano method book to learn the correct fingerings and have been helping her understand the theory end of things. Not quite ready for Carnegie Hall yet but if anyone can do it, she can.

Anyhow, I've digressed. Those new Squier basses are impressive for the money. As I said, I liked the SCPB type just for the look and if it sounds half decent through an amp, I will probably get one. For the money it's hard to beat.

I just got the CV jazz sunday night. Finally got the chance to play it for real today. The neck on it is very nice. The profile is pretty close to my American Jazz. The lacquer has a nice feel to it. It plays smoother than my VM fretless jazz. The pickups are quiet...no noticeable hum. It also has great sustain with that HiMass bridge.

I work at a music store and get to A/B a lot of basses. I thought Squier outdid themselves with the VM series but the new CV stuff kicked it up another step.

Oh Man i agree! I thought the MIMs took a step up with the reissues 50's classic etc. Then the VM line of squiers are very nice. But that CS series jazz was on a stand at my guitar center by the counter just having been unboxed by a saledude and :eek: It stopped me in my tracks. I picked it up looked it over and loved it on the spot. Although i have not played it it was really nice. I have gas for Tele model but that jazz rocks.

I bought the '50s Precision Classic Vibe today. :cool:

I went to the store to try out some compressors, no intention of buying a bass.

I chose the Squier to play on, because I was curious off course.

It blew me away. :bassist:


So much fun, incredible sound.
This is my "feel good" bass. No nonsense, no tricks, just straight forward "vibes". :D

It just felt right.
And for such a lightweight bass, and incredible full tone. :eek:

I just bought the Classic Vibe jazz last week. I'll probably get some photos taken of it tomorrow. I thought it was fantastic when I played it, so I A/B'd it against an American jazz just to be sure...and it was a lot, lot better! They really are just fantastic basses. I remember trying out a few Sadowsky Metro basses and they didn't even touch the feel or tone of the Squier Classic Vibe jazz! Never thought I;d type that, but hey...! :D

My CV 50's P showed up this afternoon. Haven't had time to check it out much or set it up yet but I'm going to take it to band practice tonight and give it a run through. Should be interesting as I haven't played a bass with rounds in years! I'll take my Classic 50's P along, too, so I can compare direct in the band mix. This should be fun!

just got my CV 60's precision today from the perfect bass..

This thing is ridiculous. I don't know why I have been paying more than $299 for basses. My only possible complaints right now is that the headstock wood is thin, and the tuners seem a bit on the cheap side. Other than that, it is nearly on par with MIA..
