I hear you...I go back and forth too...they both look hot.

However, I don't have a Jazz at the moment and even though I prefer Ps, I love a good Jazz.

One thing I wish is for them to RI a '57 P with a maple neck but the split coil pup. I know there's an MIM and an MIA '57 P, but the MIM is twice what these Squiers are going for and the MIA, great instrument but it's simply wayyyy out of my price range.

Save your money bro! The AV 57 reissue is a wonderful bass! Worth the wait!

That classic vibe '60's Jazz looks sweet! The Olympic White with the tortoise shell guard looks so cool. At $299, that's real hard to beat. If they sound as good as they look, that would be a steal on a nice Jazz. I've always wanted a white one like that.

Played my CV 50's P at practice a couple nights ago. Very impressed! I was concerned about the neck as I'm used to the wider neck on my Classic 50's P but I didn't have any trouble with this one being a bit narrower. It's nice and full which fit my hand great.

Hardware, frets, finish...everything looks and feels good. I'm used to the reverse tuners on my Classic 50 so these kept throwing me a bit. Weight is exactly 8.5# according to my cheap kitchen scale. Body looks good without the pickguard, too, if that's your thing.

Electronics worked well. I'm going to put a flush mount jack on, though, because I use an "L" plug and it won't fit into the cup. I'll replace the electronics while I'm in there, too. I've got some old full-size pots in my parts box and they seemed to fit fine even though it comes stock with mini's.

I thought I'd have to upgrade the pickup but I really liked the stock one. It's got more attack--punchier--than the split coil P but it's a lot fuller than a J pup. My guitar player made me turn down because he said he could feel the bass hitting him across the room. (I didn't think I had it THAT loud!)

Overall I'm very happy with it. It makes a great compliment to my Classic 50's P and I'm already developing preferences on which to play in different songs in our set.

Man those are some awesome basses you have got there.
btw I would advise you to replace the pots, I have my Squier vmp for a year now and the pots are getting all buzzing and schreeching and stuff, so just in case you were considering it.

I went to GC the other day and played a CV Jazz and 50's P, and I gotta say, I was disappointed with the P. My GAS died quickly. :(

The frets are so tiny on these CVs! But they were done right, no sharp edges. The neck on the 50s P was a little too sticky for me, I found I couldn't slide down the neck like I do on my MIM Jazz. Sound wise, it was alright. I think I prefer split pickup P's instead of SCPBs. But the noise was unbearable. I've seen pics of these CVs taken apart and they have a very nice coat of shield paint in the cavities. I guess its either the inherent design of the single coil, or it was the the room i was playing in. Finish wise, the paint was a little rough around the input jack, but other than that, perfect. And it was super light, to me at least. Regular P players might find the weight normal.

As for the CV Jazz... I think I got another case of GAS! :D The neck was perfect, not as sticky as the P, and I love a Jazz in white/tort. The only bad thing about the one i played was that the chrome on the bridge was a little scuffed up. And the 3 ply (white-black-tort) pickguard doesnt look anywhere near as nice as the 4 ply ones Fender sells for aftermarket.

Now I just need to find a 60s P to try out.

Was at GC yesterday and tried out most of the jazz basses through an SVT4 Pro. The two that were the smoothest, best sounding of the bunch were an MIA and a Squier Classic Vibe Jazz (believe it or not!). I would buy it and play it proudly, but this is another example of why you have to play before you buy.

I really shouldn't have any more jazzes around the house and you guys are killing me with GAS.

I'm a P bass guy but always wanted to pick up another Jazz just to have around. So............... today I dropped the dime for the Squire CV Jazz. I'll try it tonight through my Genz GBE1200 and my Ashdown AMB414T just to see how good it sounds. I really didn't go into GC to buy a bass, I was just killing time at lunch. I was so impressed with this bass for the money that I went ahead and picked it up.

The build quality is very good and it looks great. I love white / tortise / rosewood look. Honestly, I can't imagine how Squire is going to keep up with production / demand once the word gets out about how good they are. The bass feels solid and on mine the weight is beefy for a Basswood body. It's very vintage Fender feeling. The hardware seems as good or better than other basses in the 299.00 price range. I think I'll toss some TI jazz flats on it. ;)

I'll post up a review and some pics soon.

Be warned playing one of these Squire CV basses will give you serious GAS :bassist:

I liked them so much I went and got both the 50's P and 60's P. These quality of these Squires surpasses the Mex. Fenders, and equals The American Standard Series! When I saw them I couldn't believe my eyes! When I plugged them in, I couldn't believe my ears! They simply are beautiful in every aspect!
The 60's Jazz is going to be next, even though im a P-Bass Man. I just can't resist.
