I have bought (2 of) these. Can anyone offer any help in fitting them? Do I just try and line them up with how the original bridge was (obviously with equal spacing) would it work to fan them slightly? I was thinking it might increase tension?? And if not, it might look cool

Are the tuning pegs 1/2" or 3/8"

Notice anything different about this bass? Yep...count 'em. SIX STRINGS!
Due to the wide nut (2.008"), I bought the Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V to modify into a narrow-spaced 6-string. All it took was a new bridge (3 1/8"), a new bone nut & some new Gotoh tuning keys. The neck is beyond comfy & I didn't have to spend $2K+ for a custom 6-string jazz. I'm also doing this mod to my white Squier DJAV.
Here are the results. Should I call it the DJAVI now???
Sorry for being cheeky and answering; they are 3/8". If you look close (if not already seen), he put the tuner in the bushing of the original ones. However, both size (1/2" and 3/8") would fit. Only limiting is the space for the "mounting plate" of A and G tuner...
I may just put close-ups of my (sorry: P-Bass...) headstock.
The left is the current status with 3/8" Ultra Lights. The Clover ones are sadly not available with "short necks". As alternative version, it shows the "old" status with Wilkinson open tuners (also with same lenght necks), bought here:

Well, I am from continental Europe; so more used to meters. The 3/8" on Ultra Lite is the diameter of the axis, so about 9.5mm. They require a 14mm hole (as Gotoh's or the Wilkinson's on my "1st try"). The 1/2” require a 17mm hole. If I’m right, the “Schaller look a likes” mounted originally on the bass have a 19mm hole in the headstock. But, they have a 14mm axis, hence the bushings hole is 14mm…(see above note). A side effect of the thinner axis (9.5mm) is the straiter running of the E string. Anyway, also the 1/2” should fit, but you than have to treat the holes for the other 5 tuners. I've closed them with some beech round profil and drilled new holes.

Anyway, so what your saying is, if I buy a 9.5mm Ultralite, the ring spacer bit around the windy bit (sorry for this abhorrent terminology), will fit snugly in a 14mm hole? I understand there is actually quite a large gap between the string ferule and the actual hole?
Have bought the nit and bridge pieces for this, just waiting to order the tuner tomorrow

Sorry for the late replay; wasn't online. Didn't get your question. I am not sure, if my explanation was good. Therefore, I'll try to explain it with the following pictures how I've done it and what parts I've meant. I'm quite sure, that's also what you mean?!?

Then its just waiting a couple of days for the bridge to turn up. Then I gotsta find me some pennies for an aguilar OBP-3

It looks like you simply need to route your D string to the other side of the nut retainer screw to avoid the apparent binding between it and the G.

So glad i found this thread i just got a 5 string squier deluxe and have had my eye on a Sx 6 string jazz but now i think i will set my goal to get another vm jazz 5 and do this mod. How does everyone like the way they play?

I only can make a statement on it: I LOVE IT!Sure, 15mm string spacing at the bridge and 9 on the nut isn't wide (slapping is a bit challenging). But you'll get to it and I love it!
Hey guys, dumb question but I'll ask anyway. Does one have to drill new holes for the replacement bridge? I intend to turn mine into a 6 string, but I hate having to drill holes on my bass. I'm having a luthier build me a new neck, and it would really be great if the 6 string bridge is a perfect fit. Thanks in advance.
Zombie Post, I know. But I'm in the middle of getting all of the materials needed for this conversion. Just one question on the Ultralites: were they 3/8 or 1/2 inches?
