Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V -- Unbelieveable Bass!

Specs: All black hardware, Babicz bridge, Aurora coated black strings, Nordstrand Fat Stack pickups, Sadowsky knobs, BassMods BEQ12 preamp with active passive switch and series parallel selector. All I can say is WOW!!! Not a cheap project but worth every penny! the $200 Squier became the $1000 Squier.
The resale would probably kill you, but if you like the platform, why the heck not. Some will say it's crazy, but it's not theirs, it's yours. As I posted earlier, my Sadowsky equipped Deluxe 5 is a flat out tone monster!

"Darth Vader and the Storm Trooper"

Total, absolute WIN!!!!

Great concept, great basses! :hyper:
...OK - got my Deluxe V back last night. Its the companion to my black one.

I'm going to order one of these guys I think. I played one at GC yesterday and I thought it will be a great bass as a second to my other. However the preamp seemed a bit noisy. Anybody have any comments about an upgrade? Aguilar, John East, Audere? Thinking I will keep the stock pickups at least for a while but probably not forever.

Any comments would be appreciated. I'd say I'm more modern than vintage in my tone preferences.

It's bad. Pre should be dead silent. The first one I bought at GC off the floor was super noisy and mid was acting like volume. I took back and they gave me a fresh one out of the box. Flawless and silent. A few weeks later jerks at GC had noisy one back out on the floor. It should have been fixed or sent back. Tell them to order you a fresh one.

A few years ago I got the Jones for one of these too...I ended up getting one off eBay for $299 delivered in white. Well, I went to town on it....Gold Hardware throughout, OBP-2, DiMarzio Ultra Jazz, Sadowsky Pots and knobs, and swapped out the toggle for a gold one to make an active passive bypass circuit, with vintage tone. It took a few months but was a monster when it was done...take a look'......I even swapped out the logo as to make it appear a Fender to the cats I worked with. but anybody that knows basses knows Fender does not sell basses with plastic fingerboards..so i t was more for the impression of being a Fender than trying to pass it off as one in reality...i.e the neck plate says "Custom"
One thing that was killer was the weight..mine was well over 10lbs, probably closer to 11...the bodies on these babies are HUGE.

I did not expect it to be silent. I've tried these before anad always thought the pre would need to b replaced. Still pondering it.

Have had mine for about 6 months, and love it. I don't think there's anything in the price range that can touch it in terms of build quality and overall tone. I appreciate the wide string spacing, as I've never been comfortable on other 5's due to my chimp-like fingers. Mine is still completely stock except for strings; I'm using medium chrome flats that are well broken-in. Nice and thumpy. I play through a Markbass 121P combo, and could not be happier with the sound. I've considered doing the active/passive mod, but otherwise this is a fantastic instrument. And I REALLY like the fact that it's a Squier. This is my go-to bass, and I'd like to get another one in white, but haven't seen them available online for awhile.

Just discovered this thread this morning; Lots of great information here!

I didn't really have issue with the stock electronics on mine beyond the gain was low compared to every other onboard pre amp I've used.

This is post Bart 5.4 installed just because I had one laying around doing nothing.

Just a bunch of old guys jamming out the end of a VERY slow night at the bar so...there's that

Sounds awesome!!!

I just got one of these today , it plays great . I spent an hour setting it up with new Dunlops tonight with a 130 B and the only thing that's a little lacking is on the B string below G . The volume drops off and gets murky down there .I've messed around with the pickup height some and that has helped . I'll post picture sometime tomorrow , I'm really liking this bass so far .

i know this is an old thread..
i juz want to show mine.. i juz got it a month ago and i'm really impressed with the tone... i must say, it's something ive been searching for, for quite sometime hahahaha
