Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V -- Unbelieveable Bass!

I've just converted mine to passive getting rid of preamp, it is in Vol-Balance-Tone configuration now, and I used the swith too, selecting between two capacitor values (0.022 and 0.047). I like it much better now!

I'm not sure anyone can say what the ebanol does to the tone, since you would have to try the same bass with/without. Otherwise there's just far too many variables to know what is contributing which bit to the tone.
As for the feel, hey, if you don't like it you don't like it
Like I said, you are entitled to your opinion. If we all agreed all the time there would only be one bass in production! 
If I could, I'd remove the neck pickup entirely. I'm a big fan of the single humbucker at the Stingray position. In fact, I'm considering leaving the neck one disconnected and screwed all the way down.
I could actually use it as a dummy coil, and split the humbucker using the neck one simply to cancel hum...
Besides, a single custom SD is already costing a fair amount, I don't want to spend twice as much... although the truth is that the standard spacing SMB5A would work just fine at the neck position
My wife bought mine a couple of years ago. I bought it for a metal gig that didn't pan out. I was told to bring a 5-er. I wasn't going to bring my 6-string Zon to that club.
I always wanted a MM 5-er. Still @ $1700, I thought it was too high to have beer spilled on it and in a smokey club. I have been a [was] gear snob since I bought my first Rick 4001 in 1972. No way I would have considered a Squier anything..cheap crap..never touched one. OK..So my wife and I are at our local GC; about to pull the trigger on the MM 5, when I swallowed and pulled that Liquid Black Squier Jazz Active 5 from the wall. After trying the MM BASS, I plugged the Squier into a new Acoustic B200 combo, which my wife had recently bought for me as well.
I was amazed. I looked at the door guy and asked if he was hearing what I was hearing; The Squier sounded equal to the MM!! ..and at over $1,000 less!! SOLD. I initially thought "Beater bass..I'll change pups, bridge, tuners, etc". No way. I am leaving it stock. It is a beauitiful Liquid Black. It stays in tune, sounds and feels great. I did have to make truss rod adjustment, as I like low action and zero fret noise. We didn't buy the one off the wall; we ordered a new boxed bass, which came with plenty of fret noise and no free set-up. I lowered action to my liking, making even more fret noise. I had never attempted making a truss rod adjustment; leaving that to pros. After looking up set-ups on Talkbass, it sounded too easy and I made the adjustments.
I love the ebanol freet board. My only gripe is tha tthe frets need a little dressing as I feel my fingers being pricked by sharp edges on the Bstring side. Not worth getting a pro fret dressing job and I am not concerned enough to bother with it.
Now, my Squier Ctive Jazz 5 is my go-to bass. I only wish they made a fretless. M ywife loves it so much tha tshe orderd a top-of-the line Fender hard shell case for it, better that the case for my '99 Precision..LOL.. Hard part is spelling Squier..LOL..

But you are right, you can get a certain "Stingrayness" from the bridge pickup. No doubt due to the fact the bridge pickup is located right on the MM spot.
It doesn't sound like a Stingray, but you can recognise some of the tone, yes.
Can't wait to hear the wide space Seymour Duncan MM style replacement!
It's like checking and adjusting the pressure of your tyres: something that it's not always necessary to mess with, but when it's off, it needs adjusting... and it's not a complicated thing to do, certainly not "pro" material.

I just upgraded my Deluxe V. I went with a set of Seymour Duncan SJB-5 pickups and an Aguilar OBP-3 pre. I was going to go with a set of Nordstrand fatstacks, but got the SJB-5s super cheap. WOW! What a transformtion!!! The slap tone is incredible and I can dial in almost anything I need!! This is my battle weapon. I use it for every gig and practice. I rarely use my MTDs except recording.

Sadowsky pickups fit these great, too. I've done 2 of them with OBP-3s and Sadowsky HCs and they made me put all other basses aside.

Yeah, i contemplated the Sadowsky pickups as well. I ended up not as Im partial to pickups without exposed poles. The Sadowskys had exposed poles although Ive seen them without. None the less i am more than happy with the modification.
Just a follow-up.
I'm just wrapping up a season at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival working on their production of 12th Night. Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys, Tommy, Big River) was the director, and Brian Dennehy (First Blood, Cocoon, Gorky Park etc.) played Sir Toby Belch.
I used the Squier for all of the pre-recorded bed tracks, as well as my onstage playing. It has performed flawlessly throughout. All I've done was to change the strings (stock strings were really rough) and tweak the intonation.
Live setup was wireless pack (Sennheiser) to Sansamp RBI, and through the house PA.
I also played saxes, flutes and guitars onstage, so knowing that I could pick up the bass and be good to go was important. Tuning stability with the stock tuners is excellent.
And to think, my main reason for acquiring the Squier was the look - black instruments were requested to fit with the scenery and costume design.
I love my Godin guitars, so I had been contemplating selling the Squier and replacing it with a Godin, but I've decided to keep it.

not sure if I can post here - But im looking for a white V for a mod project. If anyone has one or knows where there is on for sale PM me. Im not sure why but Fender/Squire discontinued the white.
Interesting - the last post was when I was looking for the white bass. Got it from that post and now here it is after some mods.
OK - got my Deluxe V back last night. Its the companion to my black one. Hence - Darth Vadar and The Storm trooper.
Specs: All black hardware, Babicz bridge, Aurora coated black strings, Nordstrand Fat Stack pickups, Sadowsky knobs, BassMods BEQ12 preamp with active passive switch and series parallel selector. All I can say is WOW!!! Not a cheap project but worth every penny! the $200 Squier became the $1000 Squier. I will post better pics later.
