Squier/Doom Bassquiers 49: Squiers The Beef?

Sometimes my wife will brew coffee with that caffeinated water stuff.

Maybe give that a shot.

For me that's just begging for an instant migraine but she seems to like it.

I keep pure 200mg caffeine pills (NoDoz is the brandname) around. Although coffee gets me through the workday, sometimes by the time 5:00pm rolls around, I'm dead to the world but my life's just starting... so I'll down a caffeine pill, a 5 hour energy, and an herbal rhodiola rosea to mellow it all out. Sometimes when my body's really trying to sleep but I'm forcing it away on legal stims, I get into a sort of "out of body" experience thats really weird and I just try to smoke and put myself to bed. I won't mess with prescription or illegal stims, I know it'd be a very very deep wormhole to fall down... I have too much of addiction to caffeine/5 hour energies as it is. I really wanted to get an Adderal prescription but even that would probably get dangerous (although I'd be productive as FVCK!!!!)

I just like to mix a monster, with a red bull, then add a 5 hour energy... :ninja:

Yeah, just coffee and caffeinated soda for me. Energy drinks make me anxious and ANGRY. Not cool.

Hah I hate to always bring this daytime conversation back to IT world but theres just something about working in sun-less rooms under cold flourescent lights all day long that saps the energy out of you. I am blown away how exhausting it is to literally not move anything but your fingertips for 9 hours.

Reason I bring that up is I see some dudes do disgustingly unhealthy things with energy drinks... its not a single event thats bad, but the daily routine. My one buddy whos in his mid-40's started getting a bunch of kidney stones.... Doctor was stumped until he admitted that he drinks 2 Monsters every workday. Know another guy who started drinking 5 hours energies to ween off coffee, now he drinks 2 5-hours per day on top of his giant morning brew. My boss doesnt drink coffee but pounds a 40 oz. Big Gulp of Lipton brewed tea every morning to get his fix. I do coffee every morning, sometimes in the afternoon... I try to save my evening caffeine or 5-hours for events or shows or things worthwhile so I dont get in the habit of pounding one every day on the way home from work. After all... they just can't be healthy.

If I was, say, a construction worker who actually did physical labor outside all day, I bet I'd have loads more energy on tap than I do now. Its so hard to motivate yourself to exercise or lift or run after work... the couch just looks so inviting, and its a black hole. At least my hot girlfriend is motivation to stay in shape. My old girlfriend was rather fugly now that I think about it, but it allowed me to not exercise / drink / smoke as much as I wanted since she was a c*nt anyway.

There is lots of experience in this thread from all corners of the field. The Amps forum does have some good info, but there is a lot of BS to dig throuhg, and some of the best sources of info no longer post there.

Asking questions is a good thing.

Yeah I have been floating on TB for years, and if you don't know enough about certain things then you can get confused by the gear snobs on the other forums. I fell prey to the Markbass and mini gear stuff. Nothing wrong with it for the right people, but now I know that I like a little flavor to my tone and not just pure sterile transparency. So I like asking on here, no ballbusting for not knowing something, and more honest reviews of stuff be it cheap or exspensive gear. And I like to post stuff I find that I am in the know on.

what was it about the MarkBass stuff you didn't dig? I had an LM@ for a while and it copped the "classic rock" (clean) tone I was looking for. Never ran it for any grit or grind though.

I have never played a piece of markbass gear that was what I was looking for. Not everything is for everyone.

I prefer to keep my kidney damage whiskey related.

+1

I might have one energy drink per year, out side of jager bombs... :D

I heard there was a massive spike in kidney stones among the soldiers deployed in Afghanistan/Iraq because the were pounding Red Bulls while on patrols to keep alert.

Man I hated that whole sleep deprevation thing, when I was in the Guard, I know they want to prepare you for war, but **** they go so overboard with that nonsense. Better planning could lead to less exhausted soldiers and better decision making. But maybe that is a bigger societal deal, humans thinking they aren't just another top predator/ bi-pedal primate. We don't rest after working or a eating, or hunker down when a strom front comes through and our heads swell from the pressure change.

What I think they are good for since they are so popular, and usually in stock at music stores and you want the best idea of the actual sound of the bass on it's own with no other flavor, then they are great for that. Like if I have free time and looking for maybe a bass tone missing from my collection and just pulling tons of basses off the rack kind of thing.

Never owned a markbass, but I usually end up playing with one when I go to guitar center because for some reason it is the only amp plugged in... most expensive too, go figure. The sound was too compressed and had too much LPF for my tastes. The bass player for my old band had a markbass head and was raving about it to me... saw them play and was severly underwhelmed. I'm sure they're great for some but they're too expensive for what you get imo.

Probably going to take some heat for this one...

Speaker diameter doesnt determine "punch", or "clarity", or "low end", or any other adjective that is used to describe tone. Its about the collection of specs that go into the cab as a whole. A specific speaker may sound vary different in different cabs. Or a cab may sound very different depending on the speaker loaded into it. Judge each cab as a whole, and by how it sounds, not by the size of the drivers in it.

+1. Saying 12s sound better/punchier/deeper than 10s is like saying carpeted cabs sound better/punchier/deeper than tolex'd cabs.
No real correlation between speaker diameter and tone when you factor in everything else.

ive owned 2 LMIIs, theyre nice little heads but id never use them for any heavy. theyre nice and flat sounding so i could dial in all my tone using just my bass which i liked. and they were little and easy to transport to wedding and cover band bar gigs. nothing to write home about tho.

Jason you live east of the city, right? What's up GC Monroeville?! First few times I went there they had all sorts of crazy cool used bass stuff. I went there last week and the selection was atrocious.

I'm right near the airport so I usually visit the Robinson guitar center. Will probably be going there sometime this weekend because my stingray is acting up and mom bought the extended warranty on it. Good ole' mom. Yeah last time I went to the monroeville store I couldn't find anything worthwhile. Bunch of cheap crap or way overpriced ampegs. I usually try to visit music go round when I'm over that way... can usually find some gems there.
