Given the opportunity, would you pick up one of these, or a VM 70s Jazz Bass?

I got to play the Jazz at my local GC yesterday and it sounded great through the Rumble 100 I'll be picking up on Monday. I played around on the Bronco and much prefer the shorter scale. I can't physically get my hands on the SS Jag because nobody in my area carries it.

Both of these would be the same price which is why I'm torn.

I say that if the shorter scale was that significant to you, I'd definitely go for the jag ss. The quality of the VM Jazz and the VM jag ss are comparable (and heads/shoulders above the bronco).

I recently picked one of these up and love it. I'm thinking about swapping control plate out for a stacked knob set up.

But that Bronco neck just plays so dang nice....

Bronco neck rocks but it needs some work to really shine. Buy Broncos used, not new and fix them up. Jag VM SS is just fine out of the box. Do the magnet mod if you want more j pickup. But I have to admit, I think the bronco is more comfortable to play than the jag vm ss...

Thinking about getting my hands on a SS jag but then swapping the neck out for a maple fretboard one (found one here). Has anyone done anything like this on here before?

I doubt it, at least not without some work. The Jag has 20 frets, and the Mustang has 19.

Agreed, and the Jag neck is narrower at the heel, so the neck pocket would need to be opened up a little also.

Ehh, I am not a fan of the Jazz pickup on the mustang body... Looks good on the Jag body though.

I'm curious, why would you want to put a Mustang neck on the Jaguar? I think the necks on my Mustangs and Jags are very similar in dimensions and feel.

I just played one today and there were some dead spots and odd buzz. I also tinker with my possessions to death.

Maybe it needs some fret leveling or other setup work. Mustang necks are fairly rare and expensive, unless you already have a donor.

Just played my first ever bass gig at an outdoor music festival in town. And so the debut of my Jaguar. Really happy with how it went, as we played a bunch of 60s Garage classics. The bass cut through the mix really well (got a recording of it) and plays incredibly easily. I am seriously in love with this bass.

Very cool! Did you do any mods with the bass? I had one a while ago and got rid of it (should have kept it). But, I have another one due to arrive tomorrow!
