Squier Jaguar Short Scale Club Part 3

Very cool! Did you do any mods with the bass? I had one a while ago and got rid of it (should have kept it). But, I have another one due to arrive tomorrow!

Edit: Watch out for the TB "No playing in public in shorts" Police.....;)

Ha, yes, I thought long and hard about posting a photo in shorts. But it was hot. Damn hot. And I wasn't wearing sandals. Or sports socks. So I think I got away with it :)

I didn't mod anything, other than putting on some Chromes. And I put some foam under the strings at the bridge to mute it a bit at the gig for that 60s Garage vibe. Played with the P full up, the J off and tone mid way.

I'm Back!
I sold my SS Jaguar last year, but found a killer deal on the Bay that was a "for parts or not working" SS Jag.

Only bummer was they scraped off the Squier logo so I had to refinish the headstock and apply a new decal. Also, turns out there was nothing at all wrong with the bass.

I haven't gigged yet with this bass, but so far plugging it in and practicing last night, I'm once again amazed at the sound of this thing. I've gone through LOTS of basses lately and this is one ranks right up there with the sound of some of the American instruments I've had.....all for $120.00 (plus $20 for the decal).

I have a magnet on standby for the bridge pick up and might try that, but that's about all this bass might need. Happy to be back.

Couldn't you get a Squier decal for it?

Nope. Maybe custom made for extra money, but why do that when it's essentially a fender product and you can get a "Fender Jaguar" decal for cheap and fast.

I'm sure more headstock decal police will chime in shortly:rollno:

Edit: Looks better now then it did when I bought it....don't you think....

Absolutely, 100% better. Since Fender never offered a short-scale Jag with their name on the headstock, the naysayers should have little to argue about.

I'm not headstock decal police.....You can put a Gibson decal on it as far as I'm concerned!.....

Just genuinely wondered if a Squier decal was available.....

Yeah.....looks better.....Wonder why the former owner scratched off the original decal.....

Strange.....

All good. I ran out of coffee so was cranky this morning.

It comes from a major wholesaler of damaged guitars. They usually have damaged new returned items no one can fix and then they resell them. Part of the deal is they have to remove the manufacturer decals and serial numbers.

Check them out on eBay....bazaarguitars....some good deals to be had if you're handy working on guitars.

I just got my third Jag SS Bass...... a black one. I've already installed a black bridge and have just taken delivery of some black tuners. I also had a Fender Jag Decal from another MIM Jag build, but I decided to just spray some flat black on the headstock and leave it "unnamed". I will also dull down the clearcoat and give it kind of a "Matte" finish. I, too, have a magnet waiting for installation (bought it about 1 year ago, based on ArtGrendel's suggestion).

StudioGC, I saw a guy down in Sacramento rockin' the same color Jag, but he, too, dulled the Candy Apple Red finish and blacked out the White "Middle Ply" of the pickguard. Under the stage lights, the body kinda glowed, due to the dull red finish. It was cool, IMO.
Anyway, I'll be beck with pics....hopefully soon.....and request my number.

One more thing...... I just LOVE the fret dot markers in these......almost look like clay dots...... more nicer than pearloid, again IMO.

Further Adventures In Soldering

My ongoing fannying around in the guts of the SS continues! I think at my last report I was going with VVT and a push/push, but that was several incarnations ago. I'm pretty active onstage so I need something basic with an obvious layout where I can get a loud and aggressive sound quickly; The band I play bass with are also pretty full on, and I don't really change volumes much beyond on/off; I also use a preamp on top of my amp and change tones on that a lot rather than on the guitar.

The version that has lasted longest was two volumes and a switch for the J pickup that wired it ON/OFF/ON (WITH .0034 CAP) for an attempt at the Rickenbacker clank. I liked that a lot, but the mini switch is very fiddly and I kept missing the middle position to turn the J off. With that in mind, I installed a 'dummy switch' on the P pickup, which gave me a choice between a preset mix with the two pickups and the P straight to the jack. Unfortunately I am apparently too much of a dummy even for something that simple and kept getting lost mid-set, so now we're into Iteration 3.0!

3.0 consists of the dummy switch, a single volume for the P and an on/off switch for the J. This gives me: solo J straight to jack, J mixed with P using the volume pot for balance, solo P with a volume control, and an override which gives me P straight to jack regardless of any other settings. Only tried it briefly but I have practice tonight and a gig tomorrow so looking forward to getting used to it.

OK. Here's mine.......right now, anyway. I went for blacking it out most of the way.
Black tuners, bridge, string tree, knobs. Blacked out the white ply on the pickguard AND sprayed some StewMac Black Lacquer over the headstock. Yep, it weighs a whoppping 6lb13oz......and this old man's back is most happy. New D'Addario EXL160 Nickels 45-105.
I have an entire drawer of pickups.......G&L MFD's for the P position? Barts for both? Hmmmmmmm. That's down the road.
I may also take some black leather dye and darken the rosewood board.......Also going to wrap the control plate in Matte black auto wrap.
And on and on and on and on...........
