Well I threw the Duncan design pickups from my other jag in. I like it better. The j is definitely an improvement. Really funky sounding with the j cranked. The dd p I think does not lean as much to the low end as the stock. I like the tone better for rock.

Thanks Mike for the help ! I just put some long scale D'addario EXL .45-.100 and they fit well. Other than the E string, which you have to be very careful when installing it so one does not break it, the other strings were fine and easy to install. The Bass is killer, really, I am really impressed !! I love the red finish an the design of it, and also, well ,the price is ridiculous for such a bass with that finish !!!

Here are pictures of the bass taken this afternoon for your pleasure !

I don't play it a lot but when I do it's so tiny and light. I love it still.

Already thought about doing this with one of the new mustang necks... The bridge thing should not be a deal breaker unless you don't like moving the pickups forward relatively speaking. The bridge would cover the old holes - if you even have to move it. How wide is 20th fret on 30"?

What about the neck pocket specs? I would be wary that they are different widths or something.

Not wide at all , but they should be the same width and everything.

I would move the bridge forward but then the J p'up maybe to close to the bridge .


Hmm i really want another one but I want one with a maple neck.

Is this what i get for playing bass and typing at the same time ? , but yes I wanna swap necks around so forward on the bronco and backwards on the jaguar.

I am debating a gotoh 203 on the jaguar if i put a bronco neck on it , just seems like it may help a little with its grooved slots for the saddles but your right about maybe maxing them out.


It maybe best to revise this and find a better neck to use. Maybe a old SX one.



I did put a sx bass neck , 30 inch on a squier strat body one time and rigged up a bridge , it was all perfect measurement wise but it looked very ugly.




On another note has anyone debated making one fretless?

I have two right now where I put a regular neck (defretted) on a 24 fret body and you end up with like 31" scale. Kinda crooked on one of them though. Neck pocket was too wide and I was not careful about drilling the new holes. Still playable but will probably sell it with the regular neck. Not planning on defretting the ss jag... At least for the time being.

Also, to put the jag neck on a stang or bronco, may be better to just route the neck pocket deeper. Otherwise the half inch should not warrant moving the bridge up unless the saddles are already way far up on the plate. If so get some longer screws and stick another plate in front of the bridge?

I think I just need to either learn to build a neck , never have done that. Or just make a jaguar body by tracing mine, i think thats what i will do as I have made a body , pretty simple and i can do it cheap. Then i can route the neck pocket where i need it , put the bridge where i need it and I bet with all parts , wood etc , i can do it for about 100$.


Looks like I have a new project.

I haven't seen anything, but if I wanted a fretless, I'd get another one of these and have it de-fretted. This is a highly theoretical disussion for me because I need to learn to play adequately on my fretted one first and really can't spend more money on instruments. I would have consedered an SX short scale fretless, but someone, I think on this thread, said that the quality of the Jag is much better than his SX. I know a good lutheran who had de-fretted necks before.

Then again, maybe Squier might come out with a short scale fretless.

Maybe I should write another letter like the one I sent to Fender last fall.

I still have no idea if they ever read the one I sent asking for a short scale bass between teh Bronco and Fender Mustang.
