Played one of the Jags with P/J pickups, a 9V battery, and 4 knobs. Unfortunately, it wasn't plugged in. However, it felt great; would have loved to have heard it!

I bought that Jag in Sunburst and it's awesome Bass. Everyone needs at least one active Bass.

I'm pretty sure the preamp is active but the pickups are not. Whether that makes it an "active" bass I can't be sure.

Squiers Web Page Calls the Deluxe Jazz Bass 5 string 'Active' and it has the same Jazz pickup as the Jaguar so I think it qualifies.

Deluxe Jazz Bass® V Active (5-String)
2 Single-Coil 5-String Jazz Bass® Pickups

Vintage Modified Jaguar® Bass Special
Jazz Bass® 1 single-coil bridge pickup & 1 Split Single-Coil Precision Bass® Pickup

just a little fyi...i have a PJ style fender molded case. i don't have a long scale bass to go in it so i cut a little of the styrofoam out so that the ss jag would fit...worked like a charm. it fits really nicely.

What's funny is I ordered the Electric Guitar Gig bag from musician's friend ($14) because it said it was 43" long and the Jag SS is 42 1/4" and it fits fine. I found out I bought the exact same Gig Bag for my son's Squier Stratocaster last year and the Jag SS doesn't fit in it because the bag is too short.

i just ordered one after reading this thread... black. very excited to get it! i've just been playing on an affinity J bass for a while and wanted something else. still looking for which kind of P i want to get down the road.

I'm looking at getting the Modified Squier Jag in sunburst as I was just trawling through a bass site and fell in love with it. My dad took one look at it's £200 price and said 'I'll try get it you for around £170' so saying no would be silly. I just wish they'd hurry up with sorting it out!

The Affinity is a fine first bass, but there's no comparison to the bass described here. One of my students has an Affinity P, and my son has a Squier SS Jag. We all want to play the shorty Jag--such a cool bass. You're gonna love it.

Yeah, I'm very excited. I got the affinity for recording at my studio, but honestly when compared to the guitars i've gotten from squier, (bullets, cvc tele), it's just not the same level.

if i like this one (sure I will), i will probably give the affinity to a friend and grab a higher-up-the-chain squier model. trying to have a good example of each bass and guitar type at the studio for people who need to experiment on demos.

Got it! It's beautiful. Seems pretty well set up out of the box, though I don't like the feel of the stock strings compared to the ones i have on my affinity J (eb super slinky round wound). any suggestions?

also, i have a weird harmonic happening when i hit the A string open. i think it's an A 2 or 3 octaves up. never had a bass or guitar do that before. any ideas? it's happening acoustically, not over the amp.

I think the string ringing might be twisted. Going to restring it anyway, so no panic there.

Thinking of getting some DD Half Wounds.

The J pickup definitely isn't amazing, what are people replacing them with?

Also mine is hea-VY. I'd guess not *quite* on par with my full size J bass, but man, it's got some heft to it.
