New to the forum and curious about this bass: 1987 Fender Squier Bass Made In Japan | Guitars | Ottawa | Kijiji I can't find any reference to Japanese Squier fretless PJs. Does this bass look familiar to anybody? The seller claims that the neck is original...
Some refer to the MIJ models as the holy grail of Squiers, YMMV. Converted to fret less makes it less desirable. My buddy had a first year Squier Strat that looked like hell but played and sounded amazing.
I have 2 MIJ Squier basses from the 80s, and am something of a fan. The neck looks original, but has been defretted. It may be well done, or not. It is also medium scale, which is noteworthy. The price seems reasonable, although I'd feel better at $300-350 (if the defret is solid).
You won't find much about this era on the 'net. MIJ meant "couldn't afford a real one" back then. According to this - How to Date a Fender with Serial Numbers - it appears to be legit and falls within the date range the seller has posted. BTW.....welcome to TB. Good luck with the bass. It's not a smokin' deal being a Squier but that's between you and the bass.
