Squier MusicMaster Vista Club

I'm in. I have tons of fun on this bass. I have lent her out a few times and she even did a European tour with my brother in law. I swapped out the knobs and guard and did the thumb rest vibe as well. It's a 1997 and weighs in at 7.5 pounds. ImageUploadedByTalkBass1384546018.264093.jpg

Just like to introduce myself, I have been cruising Talk Bass for a while, but it was this thread that spurred me on to register!!

I play a MIJ Mustang (badly) and was unaware of the Musicmaster, however its history intrigues me. A stripped down Mustang, (if that was possible, what could they leave out)? with thoughts of a 3 string Bass, I did some research, (which bought me to this thread). Turns out this bass has more character than most other Bass's I had come across, made from surplus parts from other fenders, made for 10 years by Fender then just for one year by Squire 16 years later, 6 pole pick up with 4 strings??? and noted as among the least collectible of Fender's vintage bass guitars. Character in bucket loads!

So I am now on the lookout for a Musicmaster, I am quite happy being able to tell a reasonable Bass before I buy. But could anyone give me advice regarding serial numbers and dating a Musicmaster (both fender and Squire)

Thanking you all in advance
TB

Any one able to help? a local pawn shop in East London has two Squire Vista's one pink and one off white and I want to check the age of both before I make my choice, If not I'll have to use my girlie intuition and get the prettiest :)
Thank you
Emma

Well, they only made the Squier for one year. 1997 (or 96 depending on who you ask). The shell pink and blue generally go for a little more than the black or white. I'd say to get the one with the best neck. The neck is very slim, so if you have small hands, you should like it

Hello, I just found out they used two different tuners
On the squier musicmaster basses. I just bought 4 to replace
one bent on mine and it's different than the tuners
on both my musicmasters? Any one have a
smaller of the two tuners they want to sell?

Obviously you should get the pink! :D
As for age, they're pretty much all the same age within a few months at most.

How's the output on these? I have another thread going about my quest for punchy short scales. There's 3 of these on eBay (same seller) going for 350-400, which seems a little high. Am I off base?

Didn't know there was a Squier MusicMaster Vista Club till I started looking for some information last week when I picked this up from CL, didn't know much about this bass either, from the little info I see online they were produced just one year in '97?
Anyway, picked this up, thought it was going to be junker, dirty, stained, original strings!
Needed a cleaning, setup, some Deoxit on the electronics, new strings and plays and sounds pretty good, I like it a lot and the retro color is pretty awesome too.

Nice! Great color

Thanks for the number.
I got the Musicmaster from a guy that bought it as a young boy, took some lessons and stashed it away, asides from a couple of small nicks and "aged" colored pick guard it looks real nice.
This thing is heavy for a short scale 9 lbs and it has attitude, as many have mentioned here, the tone control really works.
None of my basses stick around for long, this one might stay around for a while :)

Wow, a real closet classic. Contact me first if you ever do decide to part with it

So there I was, just randomly looking at post earlier today and saw that there were yet several more added to this fine subject. It hasn't grown much, but the enthusiasm has. I swear this has gotta be one of better sleepers from Squier. This is almost like a being in a secret club! (yeah, I'm a dork, my wife reminds me about 3 times a week).

Anyways, I went all the way to the beginning and saw that the wonderful pix of mine don't show anymore. Sooo...why not show mine again!
