Squier MusicMaster Vista Club

So there I was, just randomly looking at post earlier today and saw that there were yet several more added to this fine subject. It hasn't grown much, but the enthusiasm has. I swear this has gotta be one of better sleepers from Squier. This is almost like a being in a secret club! (yeah, I'm a dork, my wife reminds me about 3 times a week).

Anyways, I went all the way to the beginning and saw that the wonderful pix of mine don't show anymore. Sooo...why not show mine again!
Yeah, I brag like this about my kids too.

That's a beautiful Vista! Geez, it almost makes me wish I had a black one...

I was the sole eBay bidder on a black Vista, and I'm stoked. It was disassembled but it looks true that the seller claims all the parts are there. There's some neck sanding and refinishing (Tru-Oil for me) to complete some earler work that was started.
Appreciate all the good info you guys have posted. I did a rehab on a '72 Mustang 4 years ago that I turned into a resale, and I've been gassing for a Music Master for a while.

Be sure to post pictures when you get it all together Pocket! You're going to love the Vista MM!
Sorry for the late reply, but I've had some internet issues at home. All fixed now (I hope!).

Sign me up - I just posted this thread in the pickup forum and forgot there was a club - so here is a repost -

I have a Squier Vista MM bass and the pickup sounds great. I'm working on a full scale '54 P build and would love to replicate the tone of this pickup - anybody got any information on them? I have never looked under the hood on this bass so unsure of whether its cloth wire, the measured output etc. The polepieces look larger than normal but it captures a really nice tone that does not scream modern or high output. With the same amp settings and the instrument volume maxed and the tone rolled completely off I compared it to my Road Worn P bass, My P bass with a 1970's PAF Dimarzio Model P and the output was more like the Dimarzio - a little hotter than the Road Worn and the tone was also more similar to the Dimarzio.

$299 is a fair price. It's not a steal but it's fair for someone who wants a Vista in that color. My guess is GC staff checked the average selling prices on Ebay before even taking it on trade. And they probably gave the guy a fair trade in price based on that information. They also may be willing to deal a bit, and entertain the possibility of another trade in.
So all in all not a bad deal. The price and demand seems to be going up on the Vista MMs and they're not exactly easy to find.

Congratulations pierrot! You are member No. 20! And we have broken out of the teens.
Nice bass! Love the color. Be sure to give is your thoughts on it once you've had a chance to get used to it.

OK, following my post #310, I assembled the Vista to its completion today. I got it in a box of parts for $175, and my penalty for being the eBay auction winner was pretty slight: the body is marked up with random scratches and hard case abrasions all over the place. Maybe later on if I bond with it, then will be a time to sand the body down for a refinish. The tone is wonderful. My first set of string trials is a set of GHS tapewounds, and they sound a lot better on the Vista than my 34" scale telecaster bass. Lots of room for experimenting, but right now I might be using this for a project should call for a muffy and full country-style roots sound.
