Squier MusicMaster Vista Club

This club has been quiet too long. I recently sold my last extra Vista to a fellow TBer through Reverb. Anyone done anything interesting with their Vista lately? I'm thinking about getting pickguards made finally now that I've dug out of the hole I made while hoarding all those Vistas. Does anyone have any non-white guards on their Vista? Pictures rule!

Reverb buyer here :) Waiting for some strings to come in, and trying to find anyone who makes pickguards that don't specify "Fender only"!

Pickup is definitely hotter than my Bronco or Mustang. Combined with roundwound strings, it's much more aggressive sounding than those two. I need to raise the action a bit though, lest I drown in fret buzz.

I'm curious what strings you'll try. I have all of mine setup with different sets and it's amazing to me the differences from one to the next. I'm not sure how much reading you've done of this thread, but quite a few pages back there was much discussion of various strings.

In my local shop there's a brand new Squier Musicmaster Vista identical to one posted above, price 340 Euros. Dunno if it's worth that much.

D'Addario Pro Steels! The old strings were actually those as well, but I wanted a fresh set anyway. My Mustang and Bronco both have Chromes (flatwounds). The tone across strings/frets is super even, it's nice and boomy/mellow, and I like the sound I get with a pick.

But with this guitar, the pickup is hotter, and I like the grit/jangle that comes out of it with rounds, so I'm gonna stick with those. I did have to raise the action a good bit to get out of Buzzy McBuzztown when playing with a pick though lol. Feels like I should only play fast/upbeat/aggressive stuff!

I haven't taken it to a practice/gig yet, but plan to soon.

I thought they might be steels; they had that look and sound. The action was fairly low (generally how I like it). I used to be a very aggressive finger-style player, but lately I've lightened up my touch a bit and turned my amp up more, which allows for a lower action. I agree with your thoughts on output; the pickup is hot and does sound awesome with rounds. Very growly.

There's a blue Vista on eBay right now for $300 shipped from the UK. There's one problem, though; it was previously covered in stickers and the finish has aged like a weird checkerboard. If you're into refinishing or just don't care what it looks like that's a pretty good price these days.

That's pretty expensive for one of these. I know the black ones are more common so the other colors are a bit more rare, but I got my black one for around $120. A guy in another short scale thread got a white one for $75, but it was from a CL ad.

I just took off the flats and put rounds on it. The flats just didn't vibe with me. Unfortunately putting the rounds on totally screwed up the intonation. I normally do some minor tweaking when changing strings on my jaguar, but this is almost a whole step off. Now I just have to find the time to set it up again.

CL seems to be the only way to find a cheap one anymore. All the Vistas you find on national sites are pretty spendy unless someone does a cheap fixed price listing.

I got mine at a pawn shop. They originally wanted $250 for it, but my wife knew they had it for over two years and she talked them down. But generally you're right, CL is the way to go for cheaper ones. I still can't believe that guy got a white one with an amp for $75.

I just found a black mm in a shop yesterday. Never seen one before. I was tempted but I let it go. I can't get it out of my brain though and after reading through this thread I think I will go back and get it tomorrow. Hope it's still there
Make sure it still has the Vista pickup in it and don't pay a crazy price. The black one is the most common and doesn't command the same dollar amount as the others.
