Hummm, that's nice...what are some cool modifications being made to them, any ideas? I think I seen one last night with a pick guard installed and I wouldn't want to do that because I like the wood grain look...so...anything with the hardware or pick-ups?

if you want to go for that jaco model.
seymour duncan antiquities would be great.
you could relic it and add a copper bridge to pickup connectplate.
or go for whatever floats your boat
i understand. it is hard. and a good relic is hard to do. just stick to getting nice pickups. you could go for all gold hardware. i like gold hardware on sunburst myself.
I wouldn't want to do a relic, thinking it would be cool to change the bridge to a badass2, pickups are Duncan designed but maybe change them to Seymour Duncan antiques like a previous suggestion.
The antiquities are not cheap. but they are wound to jaco specifications.
Badass 2 bridge is a great option. I myself have a babicz.
I would shield the cavities with copper tape.
the shielding paint on the squier's are half assed.
I added a series/parallel switch. gives the option to get that extra output that sounds a little P bass like.
All you need is a push/pull dpdt switch pot. or use a seperate dpdt on-on toggle switch.
The only cavity is the volume and tone area unless your talking about under the pickups?

As for Jazz knobs .. heheh ... it's getting a lot changed, and very little of it will probably end up traditionally "Jazz Bass".
** The tone control will be removed and replaced with another output jack (total of two).
** The pickups will each have their own outputs.
** Volume pots may get changed - depends.
** E-string tuner will be replaced with a Hipshot detuner with Double Stop Lever option (natural "Y key").
** Pickguard is getting replaced with a Warmoth black laminant pickguard with red in the middle (if it fits - they have a full sized PDF you can print out to check fitment prior to buying a pickguard from them - cool right?)
** Adding a brass thumbrest between the pickups above the strings.
** Depending on how they sound the supplied pickups may be goners and replaced with (perhaps) 1/4 pounders or one of the EMG types. I'll have to see what's up in that department.
** The remaining 3 tuners may get replaced with Hipshot "Y key" lightweights (natural).
** Bridge getting changed to a brass black Hipshot - haven't decided which one yet (A, B, or vintage replacement) with a .659 spacing and brass saddles.
** And I'll try my oddball string setup. On my rock basses, I use the thinnest four strings from the Ernie Ball slinky 6 string set (80-66-45-32). If that is a suck with this one, then I'll use Elixir mediums (105-45 tuned to either DGCA or DGBD).
** Straplocks (black).
This will happen over the course of about a month or two. I'll want to record and document how each change worked with (or against) my goals.
I'm really interested in how all these mods work out for you. I have the same model Squier and I really like it, but if your changes, particularly string choice and bridge replacement constitute great improvements, I'm all in. Let us know!
Ta heck with ~artificially~ making it look used. JUST PLAY THE HELL OUT OF IT! It will "relic" itself and be a genuine article, instead of a fakester. You'll respect yourself more for it. And people will respect you more for having a bass with a genuine history, rather than having a bass with a manufactured history.
Keep it real, don't turn your wonderful bass into a lie just for reasons of prestige. There's enough fake people out there that will throw money at something so that forum members will "Oooo .. aahhh" over their wonderous possession. Avoid being yet another fakester that just manufactured their reputations with money or credit rating.
Don't give your bass a boob-job, tons of makeup and a wig .... allow it to live a genuine life.
Prestige is for the weak and insecure, people that require the admiration and approval of others just to validate themselves. Play a solid groove, the respect you earn from that will be real and genuine, and actually worth something.

I'm not completely disagreeing with you flux, and I don't want to get too off topic here, but it seems to me that newer basses just don't age/wear like the vintage stuff. I've been playing the hell out of my MIA jazz for 13 years and other than a slight change in color (Inca silver will do that as I'm sure you know) the finish is like brand new.
I like the relic'd look (although I chose not to do it to any of my axes) but don't think you can get there with a non-vintage instrument without helping it along a bit.

Yea, well in the end it is YOUR bass and you're free to do whatever you like with it, y'know? Everyone has their own ideas about what good is, and I have no choice but to respect your decisions about what you want to do with your bass.
You and I may not agree, but the world keeps spinning, and life continues on. These are really teensy tiny ittsy bitsy little issues that really mean nothing at the end of the day. No sense in me being upset about you and I disagreeing about something as miniscule as what to do to a bass guitar ... y'know?

Ha! Right on! I wasn't arguing with you, just keeping the conversation going... I am very big on respecting what other people like regardless of whether I like it or not (and spend a lot of time impressing this on my sons). It doesn't matter if I think that pink ford escort with the 20 inch spinners is the worst looking car in the world, the kid that owns it thinks it's awesome and that's what matters! Back on topic... Let's see some more Squier basses!!

Well, I'm on my fourth Squier and it's my favorite so far. I scored this '85 MIJ medium scale and bribed JohnK to give it a complete makeover. It took a while but it was worth the wait.

I feel kinda the same.
I don't like the factory relics.
But i have my Strat for 15 years.
Played the hell out of it.
But as allready said, the paint and everything was to sturdy.
What i did was giving the guitar the look it deserved.
Every scratch that was on there i loved and accentuated it. The little rust that it had needed to be worse. i allready modded it. killswitch push button and all. i went in the mind of the guitar. it had to look like it wanted it to be. i wouldn't do it to any of my new guitars. but the strat was like family to me. I am gonna probably respray it one day.
But like you said, whatever floats one's boat.
I didn't do it for the props.
I did it for me and my strat.
She was the reason i went on and play guitar and bass now.
The wiring is not that hard. you have to do it right though.
you don't see the wiring, but i am always anal about that.
