Very nice! How do you like those M&V pickups? Just wondering why you chose those in particular. They look really beefy.

thanks, I read some good things about the M&V's and found the set here in the classifieds so I thought I would give them a shot for this project, so far I like the sound they still maintain the P bass sound with a little extra beef.

Recently, I'd decided that I wanted to try a 5 string. I'd never played a 5 string, outside of a music store and didn't want to spend too much money to try a bass that I might not be comfortable playing.

After doing some research here, I learned about the Squier Vintage Modified Precision V and decided to pick one up.

Fortunately, I found a brand Olympic White one and it was delivered a few days ago.

I'd never owned a Squier before and I have to admit that I'm very impressed with the quality of the instrument, the fit and finish and the tone. Most importantly, I don't want to put it down!

This is a REALLY NICE bass and far beyond what I expected to receive for such a reasonable price!!!

Just installed a fresh set of black beauties and felt like sharing. Up until the last few weeks, all the hardware was chrome. Swapped it all out for black, and loving the results. Really want to find some black springs for the bridge, as well as a black output jack and toggle switch for the Audere, but so far, so good!

PS- no the bridge isn't hanging off the edge of the body, it's just the angle of the pic!

NBD: Added a '77 modified Jazz (full left) to my little Jazz family. That Squier series (Vintage Modified) is simply amazing. Not putting a lot of mods on my basses, but they all have (or will be getting shortly) the series/parallel pick-up mod, strap-locks and Hipshot D-Tuners and maybe different pickguards Now plotting to get a 4th (and final ?) bass and thinking of either a sunburst Jag or Jazz, or a fretless Jazz. If I can find a 5 str sunburst Jag, that would tilt the balance.

EDIT: another NBD on Dec. 22: Sunburst Vintage Modified. I changed the pickguard earlier and she will also get the pick-up mod next week. The strap-locks and hipshot d-tuner will be added later today. FWIW, I chose this one over 2 Fender Jazz MIMs.... They were good of course, but this one felt just too good to let go, even though I was willing to shell out the additionnal $. I'll take a few weeks to figure out which one is going to be the main back-up and will upgrade the pick-ups on the chosen one. Or not.

I think it might be the camera/phone that took the picture. I have noticed that many pictures taken with phones get distorted toward the corners, that there's a certain fish-eye lens quality to them. In your picture, it would result in the bass at the edge of the picture looking a bit bigger than the ones in the middle.

It's because of the color.
If we number the basses from the left: 1,2,3,4.
1 and 3 look larger than 2 and 4.
It's called visual hierarchy. Visual hierarchy refers to the arrangement or presentation of elements in a way that implies importance. In other words, visual hierarchy influences the order in which the human eye perceives what it sees. This order is created by the visual contrast between forms in a field of perception.
With a bit of a size-color illusion thrown in.
Basses 2 and 4 blend in with the background a little more, so our eyes perceive them as "less important".

Any sort of fish-eye based distortion (barrel distortion) causes the center to be forward and large, making things on the edges seem smaller.

See my post above about visual hierarchy and size-color illusions.

I recently bought a Squier Vintage Modified '77 bass after it simply would not leave my arms in the shop. I absolutely fell in love with its awesome playability and unique amber color !! I added a Hipshot D-tuner, had the "series/paralell" pick-up mod done and also installed a white pearloid pickguard, to match the neck inlays.

The '77 sounds quite good but is lighter and soundwise somewhat hass less "meat" than my natural Squier VM 70s, although they are made of the same soft maple body and maple neck and share the same electronics, according to the Squier website > Invalid Link Removed.

I'm thinking about a pickup change... any recommendation ?
