Special? No, not aside from the skull & crossbones graphics. I've always seen them as an alternative to the standard P-bass body.
As far as differences from a PJ-bass, there are a few to note. A P-bass fretboard typically has a radius of either 9.5" or sometimes 7.25". The radius on the MB-4 is 12", so it is a much flatter fretboard. Another difference is that where most PJs have 2 volumes and 1 tone control, the MB-4 uses a master volume, master tone, and a blend control between the 2 pickups. Yet another difference is the majority of PJs have 20 frets. The MB-4 neck is slightly longer, with 22 frets.
There was a Fender version around before this Squier version came out. Practically identical to one another except the shape of the headstock is slightly different, and in my opinion the Squier headstock looks a little nicer.
If you set these basses up nicely, they are good sounding players. I owned one for a while to try the model out, but the flatter fretboard was not to my personal taste. A good solid bass for sure.

Don't necessarily need a number, but here's mine. Got her little over a year and a half ago. Played it on a few occasions, but was mainly a backup (being as I was using 5 stringers at the time). Earlier in the year, I was figuring out if I wanted to go back to a 4 string or get a 6 string. Took her out to a gig and decided that I would return to 4 string basses.
That decision led to me purchasing a Warwick Rockbass, which became my main player for about 5 months. Decided that I wanted to experiment with pickups with the P. The stock pups had a nice growl that I liked. Ordered a Fender OPB pickup, put it in, and fell in love with the new tone (more focused, punchier, lets the highs sing more, and cuts through really nice). It's now #1 in my arsenal.
Also have her sister, a J-bass, that I will likely do a pickup change to soon.

Squier Vintage modified 70s Jazz. Been fighting her off for about a month, but my puny defense system totally collapsed today, after a bad week at work. She's intended as a back-up to a Fender American Special Jazz, but who knows howzat gonna turn out !

I have a Jimbo signature. Excellent! Amazing quality. Only mod was I installed Fender CS 60's pups. Now it sings. I also own MIA Jazz bass. Both are amazing. However, I must say that the quality of the Squier with new pups is equal to my MIA Jazz. Each has it's distinctive voice. I love it.
How are the SD's treating you? What else did you consider? On the fence... SD/EMG

The SD's are very deep and very full while maintaining clarity, I think they are amazing and I recommend them.
I do own a couple squiers, but not here for those. I'm here to ask about this one that is for sale locally. I emailed the seller but haven't heard back yet.
I was thinking it was one of the "protone" series but then I remembered they had soapbar pickups. Anyone know what this beast is and if it's good? The price is too much for an affinity series but a great deal if it's as good as my VM series basses. I have a 4 string fretless, a five string dual P tuned E-C, and I'd kinda like to get another fiver so I can keep one tuned B-G.

Just pointing out, Germany has banned the use a lot of symbols post WW2 because of associations with Naziism, however the Iron cross (in that decal form) is still in use on current military vehicles. If it survived the government sweep, I suggest you not try to paint it with anything else.
It's also in use for bikers and considered an apt accompaniment to the blackletter gothic fonts which are also associated with metal.

I own a 70s VM Jazz, a VM pj and a fretless jazz. The fretless I'm not sure about, but the pj has sentimental value and I've spent more hours playing the jazz than any other bass.
Just picked this up Squier VM fretless P bass about 2 weeks ago after finding one at a local GC, I really liked the way it played, loved the old school vibe, fit and finish was nice and the neck was perfect for what I was looking for but as usual I had to do some mods (personal preference)
