Squier "Perfect Fit Replacement Parts" Mega thread

The tuners on my CV 70's P are kinda crappy (especially at the E string)...

I'd like to replace them. Any suggestions for a set of drop-ins for this model Squier?

I have the same bass and replaced the tuners with Hipshot HB1s (long stem version...the short stem version will interfere at the headstock edge). They drop right in with no redrilling necessary and you can even keep the stock bushings if you don't feel like popping out the originals.

Tuning is now super-precise (27:1 gear ratio) and holds rock solid. I agree that this is an excellent instrument by any P-Bass standard and it's just about perfect with the new tuners. Hipshot makes great products. HTH.

Yep, I put the HB1 tuners and BT1 detuner on my CV 60's P and they were a huge improvement. I didn't do the long stem versions but they worked just fine anyway.

The older VMJ jazz of mine DID not fit a standard Fender guard.

The CV Precision I have fit a (Chinese eBay $14) "standard" Fender P guard perfectly.

It seems the cv line uses standard Fender templates. The VMJ does not IME.

I do not think a VMJ guard will fit a cvj without drilling holes. Also my VMJ control plate is pointed where in meets the guard; the fender is rounded so I had to file the guard to fit the VMJ plate. Most of the holes didn't line up either so out came the drill.

It's possible that the VM line has been changed since my VMJ is about 2010.

All IME, ymmv.
Just wanted to add to this: the newer (post 2013) VM Jazzes do take standard MiM or even MiA pickguards.

So I read a few pages but don't have time to read every post in a 36-page thread... I have an old Squier Affinity P Bass that I'm taking apart and putting back together with different parts. It's the one in my avatar that has a white pickguard. I want to put a Fender Maple P Bass neck on it, would this work?

More info would be super-helpful. What series does it belong to? Year? Country of origin? Things like that. ;)

I beleive it's from 2006 (I will have to double check that) and it's from Indonesia. It's an Affinity series... Outside of that I don't know haha, I picked it up off of craigslist several years ago. I haven't picked a specific neck yet but I would like it to be Fender
