Squier "Perfect Fit Replacement Parts" Mega thread

I've got a VM TB PRECISION - with the stock mud-bucker up near the neck-a'la the Fender Telecaster Bass of the early 70s. .. the Squier stock mud-bucker ain't really a lot different to the old 70s Fender one. .. tonally (build wise. ...I know nussink)

Fender 74 Telecaster Bass (I don't own this anymore, but I did A/B the two while I had it. Nicer neck {imo} on the Fender and slightly smoother tone ... not a heap of difference)

Just putting this out there. ...
Anyone know of a drop in replacement that ain't QUITE so "muddy"? A lil more clarity ...ALONG WITH. ..the near bottom of the neck - position it's in - would be nice.
I ain't looking to spend a heap neither. ..so booteek $400 pups need not apply.
But am happy to look at all suggestions otherwise.
Cheers guys n gals.

Are you still rockin' the stock pots? The original had a 1meg pot for the volume, I think these squire re-issues have a 250k pot, might see how well switching pots works out as I really doubt you're going to find a "drop-in" replacment. I think it's your best bet besides sending in your pup to have it re-wired to custom specs.

Was looking for this thread and by mistake posted in a thread that has nothing to do with upgraded squier.... oops LOL

SO...

View attachment 970273 Made a trade ... 3leaf audio You're doom against a SQ VM JB body loaded with Seymour Duncan pick ups ....

Ordered a Gotoh 201B bridge , pulled out some strings , used the electronics I took out of my affinity PJ when I installed the EMG GZR , and used the affinitys neck to "test" the JB

That's what came out ...

I love it ... !!! Sounds and feel great!!!!

There are some ground noises but it's because I didn't solder the wires , just wrapped them together, not to mention I must have done something wrong with the wiring since this was my first time ever attempting this ... :)

Future plans ... buy a neck (I actually want 2 necks, one for the affinity PJ. and one for this JB - all maple necks)

Most probably the pick ups I'll get for this one will be the EMG JVX, I'm also thinking about the EMG BTC control knob - if any one has any thoughts on both the pick ups and the BTC , please share ;)

Is there any info on how to get the Classic Vibe brass bridge saddles anywhere? I am itching to switch the saddles on my Sonic Blue Precision. I noticed that the chrome/nickel saddle finish is starting to flake off or oxidize; the bridge itself is otherwise fine. I have scoured this thread plus online retailers. Not sure if I want to depend on Evil Bay, etc., but if choices are between slim and none, Slim wins every time.
I'm looking for exactly the same thing for my MIJ P Bass. I guess we could buy this and pull the saddles?

Check out what this fellow Talkbass member did:
Brass saddles on chrome bridge?
He pulled the brass saddles from a new Wilkinson WBBC bridge and it looks awesome.

Yeah, looks great. I like that look; many Squier CVs, like the Oly White CV Jazz and Fiesta Red Precision have brass saddles. The Sonic Blue, like mine, do not. Fit is important, though, since the CV bridge is kind of a high-mass type that has grooves in which the screws of each saddle "ride". I prefer that they line up, which the Wilkies might, if they are the correct barrel length and spacing between the height screws. If I come across something like that, I'll jump on it.

One thing to be aware of is that brass saddles come with stainless, chrome or nickel screws. Dissimilar metals sometimes don't mesh too well; brass is soft and can easily strip.

Hello! I would love to know if my Squier J VM 77 original tuners can be changed in order to decrease (little) neck dive? I saw Ultralites are mentioned on different places on the net, would a model suit? I contacted Hipshot a few days ago with no answer... Thank you!

I put 1/2" Ultralites on my VMP5, but had to put some card stock around the shaft of the tuner in order for things to be snug. Not sure there is a drop-in lightweight replacement, except maybe the Gotoh Res-o-lites, but I have no experience with them.

I swapped a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound pickup, and had to wiggle it slightly to get it centered in the guard. But it was pretty much a (carefully) drop in.

I changed the PG to a MIA, and had to do a little fill and drill. Most of the screw holes lined up OK, but there were a few that were so far out I had to drill them. Couple of them were so far away from the original hole I didn't bother to fill it.

I did the exact same thing…Hipshot Ultralites going onto a Squier VM Jaguar neck with a piece of my business card cut to fit the peg-holes. Not only did it help them fit just that lil' bit better, but if it were stolen and found again, I could prove ownership with a twist of a screwdriver and a wrench.

The older VMJ jazz of mine DID not fit a standard Fender guard.

The CV Precision I have fit a (Chinese eBay $14) "standard" Fender P guard perfectly.

It seems the cv line uses standard Fender templates. The VMJ does not IME.

I do not think a VMJ guard will fit a cvj without drilling holes. Also my VMJ control plate is pointed where in meets the guard; the fender is rounded so I had to file the guard to fit the VMJ plate. Most of the holes didn't line up either so out came the drill.

It's possible that the VM line has been changed since my VMJ is about 2010.

All IME, ymmv.

The tuners on my CV 70's P are kinda crappy (especially at the E string)... They drift in/out of tuning with a little play, and it's worse if I play with a pick or with any sort of aggression. The pegs even vibrate/buzz a bit when I'm playing (incredibly annoying, especially when tuning..).
I'd like to replace them. Any suggestions for a set of drop-ins for this model Squier?
