Squier "Perfect Fit Replacement Parts" Mega thread

As promised - more pixs.............................

This is a CORT - the tuners are nickel plated, not chromed. They are also pretty large as related to the standard Indonesian tuners.

Notice the capstans (barrels) are large and not tapered, but straight sided.

And a side-shot of that thick/heavier bridge. I am using some camper-to-truck bed insulating foam as a mute. Deeper and deeper! (Gads - the dust shows pretty bad here)

I thought I would check here

can anyone confirm this swap is doable?

has anyone tried this swap? squier related

I can't confirm it for certain. I haven't done anything with a VM Fretless Jazz, let alone a Precision. However, if they all come from the same Indonesian factory and are of a similar production year, I'd say it's worth a gamble, but only if you can return or resell the items with little-to-no penalty.

The Classic Vibe Series are very easy to modify since they typically use US specs. I've modified both my CV Jazz and Matt Freeman with Bill Lawrence/Wilde pickups and Babicz FCH Bridges. The Jazz also has an after market pickguard.

The pickups drop right into place and it took all of about 15 minutes to wire and adjust them. The Babicz FCH Bridge is a drop fit for any standard Fender 5 hole type mounting. Just remove the stock bridge and mount the FCH base plate. Installing and adjusting the cams takes a bit longer but once they're set and locked for string height and intonation you're good even after a string change provided you're using the same strings. The bridge it lightweight, add some "punch", and sustains incredibly well.

Thinking of grabing a Infinity P bass just to mod and go nuts on for fun , is there any problem putting a Jazz neck , and different pickups , bridges in the Infinity ? Are infinitys usualy solid wood bodies ? Thanks .

The correct name is "Affinity". The one I have is a 4-piece solid wood (alder?) body. "Most" jazz and "P" necks are "swap-able"

Have fun!!

Hi gang!

So i have a 2005 Affinity P, and hoping yall might answer some questions:

-Tuners: wondering about replacements. (Stock are open gear) looks like i can just use standard fender or hipshot hb7, with the 11/16" hole?

-Pots: looks like i should be able to drop full size cts pots in? I know ill have to open the PG hole.... anyone have to do any body routing?

-pickguard screws: anyone have issues with these? Compared to fender replacement, squiers are thicker but shorter. I wonder if the thinner fender screws wont be as tight in the hole.

-pickguard: anyone find a magic drop in ? I ordered a cheapo copy (musiclily?) But it wont be here for a month  i figure i will have to file it or drill.... the usual story.

-pickup: anyone like their stock PU? I think it sounds pretty damn good.... but then again, i did just switch from a Jazz bass :woot:

Thanks!

On my 2005 indo P:

-fender mexi bridge. Holes line up, but squier screws are a touch wider, so kept those. Works fine, but may upgrade down the road . Gotoh or hipshot maybe.

-fender pickguard screws are also a touch thinner ,so just kept the stock screws. Id rather have rusty screw heads than shiny screws that fall out.

-cts pots and switch craft jack. Holes needed opened up a touch. (I filed with sandpaper on a screwdriver, but i believe the accurate measurements is 3/8) all parts fit in the cavity just fine.

Sounds great so far!

When will GAS get the better of me and i install new pickups? We shall see....

I have a 2009 Squier Jazz (Standard series) on the way and have some questions.

What is likely to be the closest match for replacement pickguards? I know the neck pocket on these is wider, so some modification is inevitable, but if I can minimise the work needed that would be good.

I know the pickup routes are both neck sized, ala early 00s MIM Fenders, but are the pickups still reverse wound (ie. hum cancelling)?

Are the usual 5 hole bridge replacements likely to fit, or will the holes need redrilling?

Thanks in advance for any advice/pointers :)

I appreciate the vote of confidence, Alan, but there are limits to even my knowledge of Squier Standard lore. :bookworm:

As to 4sight's questions, a fair answer to just about any "Will I have to modifiy 'xxxx' to make it fit?" question is "Yeah, probably." I have yet to find a pickguard that will go on without some necessary modifications. Perhaps there is one out there, but I have yet to find it.

As for a bridge, there was a time when I had a Fender Deluxe bridge, the same kind the Fender Blacktops were rockin', installed on a Standard Jazz, but only four out of five holes lined up, so I just accepted it for a while. Honestly, it made little difference in this case, so I eventually went back to the original. But if you do decide to install another bridge, make sure you bolt the center screw position first...everything else that fits is a blessing drizzled in gravy. :meh:

Hehe, that was my answer too, but figured a standard owner should chime in. From what I've heard, the standards are the most deviant from standard fender specs. (Isnt it ironic? Dont you think?)

Thanks guys.

I couldn't find a pickguard that would fit easily, a standard MIM one would need a couple of screw holes moving (no problem), but also the pickup hole size enlarging (a bigger problem).

Weirdly, a standard replacement bridge (Wilkinson) fit absolutely fine, the screw line up was perfect :)

I got a replacement guard for my VMJ5 from this guy on reverb:

Neagle Luthier

right now, he doesn't have any listings due to moving, but I was very pleased with the guard I got. Perfect fit. Pricey but good quality.
