Squier vintage modified club, part 2

Got these for college graduation in May from my beautiful wife - a Fender Stratocaster ( I want to learn guitar ) and a Squier Vmmaple precision. Would like to join the club. It would be my first.

Mmmm, good wife!

She's amazing. I feel very lucky. She asked, "What do you want for graduation?"

I said, "A MIA Fender Strat," jokingly.

She said, "Ok, pick it out!"

I was stunned. We are trying to save for a house, so I picked out a Fender Modern Player Strat. Then, a couple days later, a friend of mine just got an endorsement from Fender and got a Squier VM p just like mine. I had to have it so I sheepishly asked for one in addition to my start. She happily went online right away and bought me one then gave me a big kiss. She saw my struggles with college and was proud I was about to graduate, so she wanted to splurge on me.

And she also co-signed on a brand new Mazda 3 for me. :hyper:

questions for the inmates here...
this has to do with farkles for my newish sunburst...

1. any of you guys bought from guitarfetish.com ? I'm looking to get some snazzy knobs... maybe Invalid Link Removed
just wondering IS THE VENDOR RELIABLE?

2. Does anyone yet carry a "plug and play" pickguard - tortoise... for the VMJ or do we still have to cut/punch/modify??

thx

1 - I've bought a lot of gear - knobs included - from GF and have nothing but praise for that company. Their knobs are classy, fit and don't fall off or tarnish. I really like their p'ups too.

2 - I posted the whole story w/pics on installing a Fender tort four-ply under my name in the Luthier's Corner a couple of years ago.

It's pretty easy with the only most problematic part being the profile of the VMJ v Fender jazz bass control plate and a void under the PG where one screw needs to go.

Fender control plates are more rounded at the apex and slightly taller than the VMJ version, that's about all.

FWIW - I put the 12 or 13 hole PG on since I wanted the tug bar and the one extra hold down screw under the strings just north of the neck p'up.

i recall your post now. will look it up.
its amazing there isn't a whole "store" full of custom acc. for the vmj and its sisters... a lot of 'em have been sold.
thx

2. I got a pg from eBay. 9 bucks. It was plug and play. I had to plug about 8 holes and play with my drill to pilot new holes. I also had to shape the control plate apex playing with a Dremel, a few passes of a file in the sides of the pocket and Dremel the pickup lobes.

1. No.

re: knobs - i got lucky on the blonde - took some knobs a dude had put on a Classic Vibe I had for a short while - black calibrated 1-10 knobs, fit perfect. done.
but now I'm trying to find some colorful knobs for the sunburnt sister..:hmm: ... short knobs, split knobs, fine-spline, coarse spline.... what do they call this thing? to me it looks like neither fine [20] nor coarse [16] - I'm counting 9 on each side of the split, and it looks awful short to me. from the body a tad less than half-inch - probably 12mm. shorter if you subtract the threaded nut holding it on...
what do we call it?
