Just looking around sweetwater and saw the new VM jazz basses no longer use the Duncan Designed pickups AND have white pearl block inlays on the neck instead of the black ones! Not sure if that's old news but I'm suprised 
It's not new. It's been around as long as the VM series.

There are different models. The 77 VM Jazz has white blocks on the neck. The change to the pickups happened this year. They use Fender designed pickups now. I actually like the sound better than the Duncans.
I know the one you mean. I intend to copy its use of Strat-style knobs on my VM Jazz as soon as finances allow...
Never been sure about white binding on a maple neck
I love the white b&b on maple. The 77 is Hawt: Strat knobs ice that cake. And I thought gas was gone. Wrong.
Yup, the '77 black/black maple version has been around for at least a couple of years. That natural/black 70's with black blocks has been around since '06 or thereabout.
Just finished. It's a Squier VM long scale Jaguar, with the Duncan Designed pickups. I put on a Highway One Precision Neck (I prefer a P neck) and the Badass II bridge.
I got a little carried away with the relic thing, but I did have fun doing it. I know relics aren't for everyone, but I do like the look, and I like the fact that I no longer have to worry about scratches and dents. Plays and sounds great! I love this bass!!

Looks like there's a different tint to the neck from the old VM '77s, have they changed it? And does anyone know how the new Fender Designed pickups differ from the old Duncan Designed ones?

Well now I'm thinking about trading in my 70s VM jazz for this
its been my favorite bass to own and play. i cant believe how light these are too, mine only wieghs 7 lbs!
7 lbs, wow! My "old" type VM '77 weighs almost 11!! Ahrrrg, it's only 4 months since I bought it new, I would have waited if I had known. I think mine is a bit too heavy
